orienteering race 1:53:46 [5] 10.46 km (10:53 / km) +178m 10:01 / km
shoes: Inov8 Oroc 280

No pressure as had 2 legs mispunched and 1 retired. Decided to take it steadier and focus on good navigation.

Had the same #1 as yesterday and managed to mess it up even more... good en! Basically went same route on same bearing but drifted off to the left. Faffed around and was just laughing at myself cos messed up same control twice haha. Pathed the longish leg to 2 with no hesitations in the circle, then good route to 3 and 4. Kept good map contact on these legs, pleased with focus and nav.

Another long-isn leg to 5. Great map contact to the track with a good bearing, going right around the rocky hill. Hit the track and ran along it to my attack point:
marsh in between two small hills. Looking at the map I think I may have been on the marsh a little to the left, which would explain why I ended up quite far left. Wasted a lot of time on this leg trying to relocate. Wasn't entirely sure which hill I was on but then spotted the road below and relocated off of the junction. Went back right and then found 6 on the way to 5, then back to 6!

Good 7, 8 picking out big features and good route. Then had the tiniest leg to 9 but just couldn't fit the map to the ground. Ended up on a boulder to the left, then did a loop, back to 8, then found 9 after an age of faffing around like a muppet. Fine 10.

Mess at 11, literally ran past it 3 times!! Knew I was in the right place but still ran around like a headless chicken then focussed and sorted it out. Yet again feeling like a muppet haha!!

Fine 12,13,14 but probs should've pathed 14. knew where I was at all times though so pleased. All good until the finish still feeling strong through the terrain and even better on the paths. 16,17,18 were paths but with a little bit of nav at the end of 16 which was fine. Sort of racing in to the finish with a few men lol.

Absolutely LOVED it!!!!!

Tiomila Junior Relay
Frank had an insane first leg and came back 18th!! I basically crapped myself and was off in a pack of all the top runners ahh. Going well up the first hill and took a good bearing to 1 but there was another control (123) on my line in a small reentrant right before my control and everyone in my train had 123 and disappeared! Thought I must have been a little off line in a reentrant so re-adjusted and ran for ~30 secs and eventually realised where I was. Annoying.

Panicked a bit and didn't have a solid plan for 2, just legged it to the path. Then got confused as which one I was on and ended up too far right so was coming in from the wrong direction which was awful. Back in a pack for 3, 4, 5, 6 and then everyone took different routes to 7. I took the path but then faffed around before in the circle and found 162 before mine but couldn't work out where it was. Then just tried to locate but took so long eventually worked it out looking down at the path and crags etc. So annoyed at myself because wasted a lot of time on tat one! Then to the finish was fine just bonked through the field near the end.

Dropped ~4mins on leaders in first half then ~8mins in the second half, ugh! (sorry!!!)

walked around one of the open courses with my dad so he could get used to the area and I could get some good nav in before the longer race. Got to 5 and my achilles started to hurt so walked along the path to just after 9 (where my dad said he'd meet me) and then he didn't turn up so wandered around looking for him for ages lol. Turns out he thought I'd ran back...?

Did the long, 6.4km, just plodded round.
Enjoyed this a lot, good long legs - not micro navigating, picked up off the big features and executed my plans well. Small miss in the circle at 6 and distracted at 10 by my dad lol. Annoyed because I was on the right line to 10 but spotted a different control and ran to it, wrong one, oops! Gave dad something to laugh at anyway hahaha, wasted like 1.5mins on this.

Meant to be going on a 15K hill run with dad and his mate but I had a bad stomach on the way in the car. Started uphill feeling fine but then once we reached a small flat part my stomach cramped lol. Jogged back down to the loos at whinlatter.

running hills 37:23 [4] 6.02 km (6:13 / km) +209m 5:17 / km

Felt better so ran up the forest track and did 5x1min (40sec walk recovery) hills. Then carried on up, not really knowing where I was going, ended up doing a nice loop and followed the Park Run signs backwards to the centre. Don't think I'd have managed the 15K run as it was a long graft so probs wise to have done this instead anyway. Enjoyed it!
