Orienteering (SEJS Training) 3:00:00 [3]

SEJS Training Camp Day 2 on Broughton Burrows

Relocation exercise to start and to get used to the area. Found the control easily and fine to relocate.

Long-ish 3.6km course around the area, nice running but getting spiked by marram grass all the way. Good to work on terrain running and contour interpreting.

2.2km Depressions and reentrants courses: nice and simple.

Hills line following, fairly easy but to end good to see the contours from a high up perspective.

Orienteering (SEJS Training) 3:00:00 [3]

SEJS Training Camp around sandduney Gower Peninsular. Kenfig Burrows today: nice and runnable and fairly techy.

Reentrants: all controls in reentrants to let us get used to the map. 2km

Depressions: same style but all controls in depressions, fairly easy course. 3km

Long Legs: Longer distance between controls and slightly harder technical difficulty.

Orienteering (Night) 27:24 [4] 4.88 km (5:37 / km)

Night running and orienteering around Blackheath. Long distance bearing focus and succeeded pretty well at getting the controls nicely bang on.

Orienteering race 51:57 [4] 6.8 km (7:38 / km)

Military event at Hawley, near Camberley. Nice area with sandy pine forest. A lot of tracks and some thick vegetation and bushes. Solid run but felt heavy legs all the way round. Came 2nd with a fairly clean race. Made approx. 2 mins of mistakes (wrong way out of a control, getting wrong bush and overshooting the control.)

MTB clycing along sandy paths - very tough to pedal especially up some of the steep North Downs slopes. Nice and tired by the end.

Good sesh.

Orienteering race 47:45 [4] 3.7 km (12:54 / km)

Total nightmare!! Gothenburg middle distance in very technical terrain.
I ran M16 against lads who train on the area, and tbh I was a bit knackered from the day before at Blodslitet.

Messed up 4 of the controls making my total error time at around 11 mins. Yikes!! After these errors, I lost momentum for the second half of the race. Finished way down the field.

This is one of the days where you just have to say "it's good for experience" and aim to learn the lessons. Still, I managed to beat the Danish M14 champion, who had an even tougher time than me! Gives me much to think about how to step up to M16 for real in a few months time.
