Orienteering race (Middle) 39:30 [4] 4.4 km (8:59 / km)

Penmacor International O Meeting Day 1 M16 - 2nd place
Today's middle distance was on some excellent, rocky and varied terrain. I got thrown off transitioning from complex rocky areas into simpler, flatter terrain (#9). I lost my concentration as it was towards the end and my use of compass wasn't great. Good thing to work on there, how to stay in control.

Orienteering race (Urban) 15:13 [4] 2.9 km (5:15 / km)

Penamacor Urban Night Sprint - 1st place
Pretty good race all round, feeling nicely warmed up and no problems with stitches or anything. No mistakes around a fairly difficult sprint urban area but flow definitely could have been better through the really short legs. Lost total 20 seconds from hesitations. Now ready for battle at the Long Distance tomorrow!

Orienteering 1:15:00 [3] 5.0 km (15:00 / km)

Morning was some very technical orienteering in boulder covered, pathless terrain, used as the model event for Penamacor WRE O-Meeting. Getting my head in gear for the weekend ahead, getting used to the area & mapping.

Afternoon was just walking around the second model event in a simpler area, studying the different rock features and the variety of terrain.

Orienteering (Tempo) 32:38 [4] 4.88 km (6:41 / km)

Very good orienteering training around Cidral, an extremely rocky, rough area in East Portugal, topped off with a bit of mist at the start! The first half of today was a tempo style run, orienteering the best I could in the very challenging terrain (4.3km straight line). Lost 1.30min at #5 from being very confused between the different rocks as the map said control was on a knoll but it actually was just another boulder.

Orienteering 30:00 [2] 2.2 km (13:38 / km)

Just walking / jogging around the very steep second half of the course. Great navigation not having much trouble but rock climbing isn't my strength! The boulders were very slippery after the rain so the whole of today, I was being fairly cautious not to injure myself.

Orienteering 40:00 [3] 5.0 km (8:00 / km)

Great technical orienteering around the forest of Azaruja, near Evora. Amazing training map at 1:15000 so took a bit of getting used to. Good terrain only problem the entire area had been ploughed, making it very difficult to run through. I did only 5km worth of the full course provided, but was very enjoyable as I took it very easy, jogging & walking it.

Orienteering race 38:18 [4] 6.6 km (5:48 / km)

POM Day 4 Long Distance on similar terrain to the past few days. Navigation was ok but a bit disappointed with the planning as it could have been much more technically difficult. Despite this, I still managed to make a mistake at #6due to losing map contact going into the more tough terrain. Not a great race overall as felt a bit tired as well so couldn't accelerate on the faster path stretches.

Orienteering race 23:59 [4] 4.4 km (5:27 / km)

POM Day 3 Middle Distance. Felt much better than the previous two days and navigated pretty well throughout the course. Lost a small amount of time at #16 from being confused by all the rocks. Good race overall so pretty happy.

Orienteering race 9:55 [4] 2.0 km (4:58 / km)

POM Urban Night Sprint in the town of Portel. The race went pretty well, losing to Joe H by 2 seconds! ARGH! I lost around 10 seconds at number 9 by mixing up two streets but recovered quickly.

Sunday Feb 11 #

Orienteering race 37:06 [4] 6.6 km (5:37 / km)

Day 2 of POM. A good long distance around a very runnable area with a lot of paths to navigate on. I was a bit disappointed with my course (TD4?) as well as my form because I lost about 1min on running speed and 1min due to lack of concentration on the map in some parts. Ended up 7th, running 5.6 mins/km, so not too bad, but I still could have done better as I felt a bit heavy in the legs. So OK overall but some things to improve on.

S&C 12:00 [3]

Standard exercises.
