Orienteering race 30:30 [4] 3.75 km (8:08 / km)

Middle Distance around Abbey Craig.
Lovely terrain, only physical problem that slowed me down was the steep climb throughout the course. Made one large error on #12 resulting in about 2mins loss. A parallel error between many things such as a path and reentrant. Here the scale of 1:4000 threw me off a bit so a thing to get used to.

Orienteering race 15:15 [4] 3.14 km (4:51 / km)

Sprint around the housing estate in Rosyth. Good race overall, made most of the road crossings as a rest. I made no mistakes, only a few hesitations making some route choices. Didn't pick up my hired SIAC dibber, so this added on 2-3 secs per control. No problems with stitches or anything and pretty happy with my performance.

Orienteering race 44:40 [3] 4.73 km (9:27 / km)

Absolute hell!! The area had impenetrable rhododendrons which several of our controls were in. Not much to learn from tonight other than go round next time! I found myself army crawling under roots and branches through a seemingly endless jungle. Some of the orienteering was nice & detailed though, at the beginning and towards the end coming down the diagonal slopes. Will I go back there in the summer? Nope (or only with a machete).

Orienteering race (Night) 34:00 [4] 6.4 km (5:19 / km)

Scottish Spring. Night 2-man relay around the small but fun area of Barr Wood. Pretty wet but hilly and good contour features.
WU - Jogging to the start - 1km
Drills
Leg 1 - 2km, 14 mins: a short course getting used to the area but also going pretty fast with Spongey and others at the mass start.
Leg 3 - 2km, 20 mins: after handing over from a bedraggled Dad. Went well, again course, with little mistakes, only coming a bit high into #5.

Running 45:00 [4] 7.4 km (6:05 / km)

WU - 1.7km jogging & drills
4 x 1km terrain loops around Blackheath West, heather and hills, moss and brashings. Felt good with no real problems other than a minor stitch towards the end but no impact on my speed. 2 mins rest between each.
WD - 1.7km back home.

Running 30:00 [3] 2.0 km (15:00 / km)

1.7km WU
Attempted 10 * 1min sprints with active recovery but after 3 reps, I felt a sharp pain is my upper right abdomen, just below the ribs so decided to back out and not press it, so close to the JK.

S&C 20:00 [3]

Orienteering race (Long) 1:12:24 [4] 9.6 km (7:32 / km)

French Southern Championships Day 2
Absolute mud bath and nightmare. #1 was despicable because it was in impenetrable green and my attacking of it was pretty horrendous. I came into the green running too fast after yesterday and didn't know what hit me. My compass was all over the place and ended up losing a whopping 8mins. Lost motivation and most of my speed. Relocated eventually but still a trudge round the muddy & heavy going course with a friend who had caught me up by 6 mins. Something to think about!
