Orienteering race 31:06 [4] 4.2 km (7:24 / km)

OO Cup Day 4, 4.2km. Technical orienteering on intricate limestone forest terrain, loads of spurs, re-entrants, and all sorts of contour shapes.

Super run - error free, nice flow, strong up the hills. Eye calmed down, so I ran controls 1-3 at 90%, felt fine, so thought I should make good effort for the rest of the course. Beat the French LD champ by 3 mins. Why couldn't I do this earlier in the week?!?

Note
(rest day)

No run today for medical reasons. My eye has developed an infection and is watering profusely. Can hardly see and everything is too bright. Doctor at the race arena told me to get it checked immediately at the local hospital in town.

So that's the end of O-RIngen for this year. Not exactly as planned, so will have to chalk it up as good experience. Understanding a new Swedish rock-based terrain type, knowing when to use more accurate compass, and heat management are the main learning points.

Now travel to France for days 4-5 of the OO Cup.

Orienteering race 58:51 [4] 5.4 km (10:54 / km)

O-RIngen Day 4. 5.4km. Actually started to work up a rhythm today, but another nonsense error @ 7 mins at no.3 spoiled the run. Learning to handle the terrain, and quite enjoyed the rest of the course. Still brutally hot.

Orienteering race 43:36 [4]

O-Ringen Day 3, Middle Distance, 3.8km.
This isn't working! The rock-on-rock terrain is quite different. Spotting the right boulder/crag, amidst lots of smaller unmarked rock features, in a scene of bed-rock surfaces, on a vague contour base, is really hard. Lost 6 mins on no.3 and 4 mins on no. 8.
The heat is also taking its toll, with 30 degrees each day, probably higher given the amount of rock surface.

MTB race 1:00:00 [4] 6.2 km (9:41 / km)

MTB-O Try It day at O-Ringen. Good fun - hilly.

Orienteering race 1:03:11 [5] 5.4 km (11:42 / km)

O-Ringen Day 2 - Long Distance 5.4km
Pretty disappointed with my physical performance in hot running conditions. For the whole course, my strength in the terrain was lacking and my running speed seemed much lower than it should have been. My nav wasn't too bad, but I made some route choice errors such as approaching a cliff face at the wrong part, and having to run along it for 250-300m before I could descend. I hope that the rest of the week will go better.

Orienteering race 50:37 [5] 5.5 km (9:12 / km)

O-Ringen Day 1 - Long distance 5.5km
Felt OK starting but warm-up was a little limited in a tight space. No stitch which was a relief but I couldn't keep up with Benjamin Wey and Teodor Mo Hjelseth, who started 1min & 2mins behind me. They pulled eachother round, coming 1st and 2nd today. I'm up with some other major players such as Arvid Bj & Hans U, and 5 mins behind Mats Ostberg in 10th. Nav was a litle scrappy making a couple of 1-2min errors where I shouldn't have, once due to the 1:15000 map scale. A steady start to the week, looking forward.
