Running 3:06:16 [3] 26.77 mi (6:57 / mi) +398m 6:39 / mi
ahr:162 max:192 shoes: Adidas Supernova Sequence 8

The North Deeside Way. Got dropped off at the Scotty car park, did 25 mins towards Aboyne then turned back and followed the route to Duthie Park. Mostly dirt path for the first 2 hours, then tarmac to the finish. The first 50 mins were a bit hillier than I would have liked.

Maintained what felt like a steady and manageable pace throughout. Took my watch with me but wasn't able to see my pace/distance. Turned off the auto-lap so don't have a mile-split.

Had a gel and a gulp of water every 20-25 minutes.

Didn't sleep well last night so started out a bit tired and heavy-legged. The being said, I felt in control and steady throughout. The last hour wasn't easy but it was only in the last 5-10 minutes that things were beginning to feel hard.

Felt under-powered and weak at the start. Settled in to the reps and felt OK by the end.

Tucked in behind Laura Muir for one of the efforts, was able to stay more or less level for the 60s but then I stopped (tired) and she just cruised away at the same speed. Probably her warm-up!

Running race 35:28 [3] 10.0 km (3:33 / km)
shoes: Adidas Supernova Sequence 8

LUMPHANAN DETOX 10K

Tried to ignore everyone at the start - this was a time trial for me and I didn't want to get drawn in to a fast pack too early. Just concentrated on keeping up a steady intensity.

Felt good on the first 2km - made up quite a few places on the ascent. Interestingly, I found the downhill harder on the legs and lost about four places in the 3rd km. Remained steady for the middle road section. The 8th km is mostly on an incline on a farm track, I made a good pace here and made up 3 places and I held that position till the end. Probably could've pushed a bit harder on the last 500m but I was wary of the ice in the village; was unlikely to make/lose a place and didn't want to risk a fall. Finished in 6th place.

I felt like I paced this well - never felt easy and got steadily harder throughout. The last 2km were particularly hard, but I was in control. Things only felt desperate for the last 500m, but that's a good sign I think.

Overall pretty pleased with how it went.
12 PM

Running 18:53 [3] 1.97 mi (9:35 / mi)
ahr:152 max:170 shoes: Adidas Supernova Sequence 8

Went for a warm-down about 10-15 mins after the race; just time to get a goody bag, put on some warm clothes and say good-bye to my Mum & Dad.

The first 200m were very difficult. I don't know how to describe it other than my right leg seemed to almost give way at the knee and I could only manage a limp/hop, rather than a proper stride. As it warmed up I was able to maintain a decent cadence. It isn't painful, more a mild discomfort that seems to affect my stride at the beginning of runs.

Monday Jan 1, 2018 #

4 PM

Running 1:00:22 [3] 7.56 mi (7:59 / mi) +55m 7:48 / mi
ahr:160 max:175 shoes: Asics GT 1000-6

Same route as yesterday with a couple more laps of the Goals football pitches thrown in.

Legs felt worse today. A slight ache/tightness in my left quad and a weakness around the knee. Was noticeable for the first 5 minutes of running but less so as I warmed up.
