A trot around the Luss hills with Alastair. Luss > Ben Dubh > Mid-Hill > Road > Luss.

We were going to follow the Luss race route and go back up Ben Dubh but neither of us could be bothered in the end and we did the last 2 miles by road.

Felt better than Tuesday's run. Left leg is still a bit sore & awkward so I was pretty slow & careful on the descents.

A bit off on the amount climbed.

Wasn't able to do any lunge warm-ups due to my left leg. Could do all the drill warm-ups without pain and running was OK.

Felt creaky and tired throughout; still not fully recovered from Barcelona.

Hyndland > Marhill > Kelvin Path > City Centre. Met Gwyn & Roddy at Murano St.

Left leg felt sore doing lunge warm-ups. Ran for 5 minutes and then was able to do the lunges more easily. No pain during the run itself, just an awareness that my leg had a slight ache around the calf.

Did 6*stride-outs, leg felt fine for those.

Couldn't make this week's club run so went for a trot around the Kilpatricks. Muddy on the hills and the recent forestry work has chewed up a lot of the trods. Looking for an alternative to the race route for this year, couldn't find anything particularly inspiring.

First hill run in a while - felt like a bag of tatties; weak, clumsy and tired.

Beautiful clear morning but very cold. Misjudged my clothing choice and was freezing by the time I got in to the office; toes & fingers numb.

Trot around the Hyndland & Bearsden.

Tried to avoid slopes as far as possible. It was a struggle going up stairs this morning - did not want to put any weight on my left leg. It felt a bit fragile at first and I was always aware of it throughout the run, but it didn't stop me. Did a lot of mobility work when I got home.

Walk up Goatfell with Mike, Stuart & Henry. Beautiful, sunny day.

Developed a limp in my left leg on the way up - stepping up or stepping down on steep ground caused a slight pain around my knee/quad area and this made it difficult to put weight on that leg. Was OK on the flat and gentle slope.

BARCELONA MARATHON

Mile Split: 5.56, 6.00, 6.00, 5.55, 6.00, 5.46, 6.00, 5.54, 5.59, 6.02, 5.56, 6.05, 5.57, 5.59, 6.02, 6.04, 5.58, 6.16, 5.59, 5.55, 6.07, 6.18, 6.30, 6.37, 6.28, 6.41 + 2.02.

I had a gel every 20mins and something to drink every 2.5km. Had a few people around me for the first 10km then after that was mostly on my own.

Felt awkward for the first couple of miles though without a warm-up that was probably to be expected. Generally kept a 6.00 mile pace till about mile 22 though there were stretches when we were running in to the wind.

Things started to feel hard about mile 18, just a feeling of general tiredness. Around mile 22 things really got tough; all the energy just drained out of me and my legs felt heavy. The last 2km were a nightmare, on a slight slope, a couple of times spectators tried to high-5 me and I tried, and failed, to raise my hand to do so.

Felt completely wrecked crossing the line; shuffled around for 15 mins to keep the blood flowing. Walking back to the apartment (750m) took an age and the stairs to subway and up to the apartment were a real struggle. After a shower and a bite to eat I sat on a park bench for about 2 hours because I couldn't face standing up.

Easily the hardest race I've ever done; the last 4 miles were much tougher than I'd expected.

Expected to go faster overall but looking at the splits I think I ran a sensible race for the most part.

Lots of snow on the ground this morning - kept a 7min/mile effort throughout but off pace due to snow/occasional wade.

Ran up to the canal towards Bishopbriggs but gave up before Possil as the snow was too deep. (Met Outi & Ruth on the canal - the had the right idea with x-country skis.) Turned around and went back in to town via Glasgow Green.
