Running race 1:15:03 [4] 13.1 mi (5:44 / mi)

Strathaven Half Marathon. Good conditions for the most part, cool with a mild breeze.

First half marathon in a few years. Started out strong, fast and relaxed. Was in the lead for the first 2 miles with Douglas Roberts. Were passed by John Sharp at 2.5 miles and DR went with him. Mark Sutherland passed me at 3.5 miles and I settled in to 4th where I stayed for the rest of the race. I was about 300m behind DR & MS for most of the race but they got away from me in the last 1.5 miles.

This race was tough. I went with what I hoped was a 'just maintainable' pace so it felt hard from about 2.5 miles. The course was 'undulating' which meant a lot of hills. Miles 6-9 were particularly difficult - head winds and stitches to deal with. My legs were particularly sore for the last 2 miles, felt like I had nothing left. I wasn't being chased and there was no chance of making up a place so there was no need to try for a sprint/effort at the end.

Really happy with the result - a 52s PB over a tough course and good placing as well. I was maybe a bit too fast over the first couple of miles but it was worth going for it at the start.
