GLAMAIG HILL RACE

Another week, another ultra-classic hill race. Felt a bit tired on the start line due to a lack of sleep last night but was determined to give a good account of myself.

Some fast running along the road, over some heather and then it was on-all-fours steepness to the top. I paced it conservatively, I'd been warned about the descent and decided to save energy. When the descent came it didn't disappoint - tricky scree running followed by a mental dash down a steep scree chute, staying up right was a challenge never mind going fast!

I popped out on to the heather feeling remarkably fresh; pushed hard for the last mile and made up three places in the process. Crossed the line again feeling quite fresh; the descent may be fast but it's so tricky that it's difficult to let loose physically.

I came 23rd, which is pretty good in a champs race that isn't suited to my strengths (such as they are). Should maybe have pushed a bit more on the ascent - will know for next time. A class course, really enjoyed it.

Running warm up/down 15:00 [3] 1.5 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: Red Inov-8 Mudlaws

Jog along a trail with Sam, Gregor, Manny, Stuart & James. Had a nice dip in a pool at the end; water was temperate, it's clearly been warm on Skye!

Distance is a guess, didn't have my Garmin on.

Jog home from work. Still feel knackered. Did hill sprints in Kelvingrove, ignoring all the BBQs as I dodged between people enjoying themselves.

Running 1:12:00 [3] 9.0 mi (8:00 / mi)

Stuck in the office late so an easy run around the hillier parts of the west end of Glasgow. Garmin battery ran out at 56 mins so this is a guestimate given where I was when that happened.

Though better than yesterday, my legs are still sore and I felt generally tired - the Arrochar Alps packs a real punch! Managed to keep the pace without difficulty.

Running 1:01:21 [3] 7.9 mi (7:46 / mi)

A run home after work. Another scorching day in Glasgow, felt slow and lethargic in the heat.

My quads were seriously sore and I felt drained from beginning to end. Arrochar was a tough race and clearly took a lot out of me.

Cycled the 20 mins home from work - quads feel like someone has taken a sledgehammer to them!
