HODGSON BROTHERS MOUNTAIN RELAY - LEG 2

Got a bit of a shock when Gwyn & Niall stormed in to the changeover in 5th place - starting up the route we passed loads of other teams early on, plenty of people would be chasing us.

A strong pace from the beginning, Helm Hill had a 60s head-start but it felt like we were beginning to reel them in, I was too scared to look behind but I think we were able to maintain a fair gap from Borrowdale.

We flew across High Street, but things went a bit wrong around the 2nd checkpoint - the clag came down, we missed our 'direct line' from yesterday's reccie and overshot the tarn. Probably wasted 2-3 minutes doubling back to find it.

We joined a bigger group for the last section of the route, neither of us in a mood to slow down. Handed over in 7th place. We were 12th fastest on the route.

Kris and I were well-matched, I was done in by the end of the leg. Absolutely furious that we missed that checkpoint, am sure we could've made it up to 4th. Redemption in 2019!

Westies finished 7th overall <10s behind Borrowdale - our best ever placing in this event.
