Today's race was a LOT better. I was very hesitant after the course yesterday because I wanted to have a cleaner run.
I messed up a little on one, going slightly to far left after hitting the end of the stream which caused me to see the road. After a little wandering and thinking I decided that I must have been to short as well, and after going a little further I saw the actual hill and followed along the edge as I had originally planned to do. On two I hit the swamp, but farther left than I wanted to. I tried to make up for that and ended up to far right where I, after a few minutes, recognized that I was at the long ditch that extended almost to the stream, and found two. I came out of two aiming a little right to hit the pond, which was a clear point to go from. I crossed the stream a little to the left of the pond and got up on the hill, went down the stream, and then up the gulley to the trail. I didn't check my compass well enough coming off the trail and got down to the stream where it was already split. After crossing the first but I quickly recognized what I had done because the hill sloped off on the other side. Correcting myself I followed the stream left until the gullet which I followed up to the gravel path. Off the trail I saw the reentrant and found three easily. I followed the ditch down to the stream and then went back up and found the gulley. The ditch closest to the gulley was visable from the trail, and I followed that down to four. Four to five I went down the ditch and crossed the stream at the knoll and black x and followed the edge of the hill up the gulley to five. Give to six looks kinda nasty but it wasn't actually that bad so I went straight. Out of six I went down to the stream and up the ridge, hesitating a little too early, but I quickly recognized that I hadnt gone far enough. Seven to eight had two clear (at least to me) routes: along the stream to the left or right to the trail. I decided to go right but in hindsight left was definitely the better choice. I went down to the stream, aiming a little bit right and then up the large gulley and left at the top, making sure that I would hit the trail. I left the trail at the junction but went a little to far left and worried for a bit before coming to the conclusion that I was too short and also left, and found the control shortly after that. I planned on using the top of the hill to get to nine, recognizing that the for line was not going to be obvious. I ended up at the ditch to the left of nine in the flat area, but I saw what I had done and headed to the control. I wanted to go straight to ten but after going part way I recognized that it wasn't going to happen so I ran to the stream and went off of that. I got to the rocky ground and cairn-ish structure to the right of ten and stupidly doubted that I was there but then went a little left and saw my control.
