Buttermere recce with Belinda
i) The races makes it's punches early! There's a lot of climb and a rough descent in the first third: once you are at Robinson then you have done to worst. Then it's more or less all about grinding on to the end with the exception of a steep climb up High Crag.
ii) The direct line to Robinson is horrible! I thought it would be faster but you spend a lot of time in the tussocks. However, the contour might be just as bad.
iii) We could not find that contour around the valley before Mellbreak (the name escapes me and I don't have the map to hand). Finding it is a must because the path down following the stream is SHITE however, we spent a good while thrashing around in heather to no avail!
iv) It really is a beautiful route! However, that might just be because we had a perfect day for it.
