3 km race
The goals today were to push myself to the limit and to break 10 mins for 3 km. I accomplished the first goal but not in the way I would have liked. And I did not accomplish the second goal.
My mistakes in failing these goals were, a) Starting the race too fast, and b) waiting to use the last of my energy to the last stretch.
The first lap of the race was a hot 35 seconds, and I was feeling great! I was in front of the pack for the first 6 laps at least , which was a first for me, I don't think I have ever ran any part of a race where I was in the lead. So I was very energized off the start. Then I heard kip saying to calm down and relax and be smooth so I cooled off a little bit. Then this kid passed me on the corner and cut right in front of me! I was stepping on his heels and i was pissed. After that 2 more guys passed me and I tried to hang on to them but couldn't. So I ran the rest of the race essentially alone just trying to push myself harder and harder but be smooth at the same time. Before the final lap I passed the kid that cut me off and beat him, which I was pretty happy about! And I kicked it at the end.
What I should have done- was start the race slower, and use my kick 400 meters before I did. If I had done these things I have no doubt that I would have broke ten minutes and I am very disappointed in myself for not doing so.
