Not able to run on my ankle so just collected my map and walked some of the course, very well taped/bandaged up. Bit depressing to be walking on a 1:15000 map, got 3 of my controls in an hour (!) but nice to get into the terrain anyway. Bit jealous of the lovely course I could have been running, but its not all bad as I saw an elk for the first time ever and got back just in time to see David be first finisher on H18E.

Should have taped my ankles.... After a slightly shaky first control (direction was a bit off, although corrected myself without too much delay), then had a series of good controls 2-5 putting me in 7th overall. Made two consecutive mistakes on 6 and 7; 6 made no sense to me and I was quite a bit off even on a short leg, and 7 was going perfectly for the first half but then I drifted off line on the vague slope approaching the control and just couldn't see it. Then twisted my ankle quite badly on the long leg 8-9, had to walk for a bit and then run slowly. Head wasn't in it after that and more errors followed as I hobbled into the finish. Bit concerned about it, it is very sore now, but have iced, elevated and had it compressed in a bandage so will have to see how it is in the morning after a nights rest....could go one of two ways...:( sad vibes, really wanted to run the Long tomorrow, but got to prioritise JK and Tiomila.

2hrs walking with David, talk-o on contour only map as his shins were sore and resting for race tomorrow. Was actually really beneficial and useful to understand the mapping more and discuss strategies. Plus the sun has finally come out. Nailed every control, bish bash bosh.

O-intervals. Mixed, some really good orienteering, but some poor directions, especially screwed me over in the green (proper green nastiness).

Club training night: relay training from hut. Good fun, missed a few good lines and not the smoothest I've orienteered but was good practise. Using a lot of the green areas in prep for Tiomila

Morning training with David from the hut. No markers. Broke it up into 4 sections. Mixed, some mistakes but some really good legs, getting used to the mapping now and the good lines.

Tiomilarepet: D21K first leg. Technically a shambles after nailing the first 2 controls got a bit complacent, running too fast in the wrong directions and quickly became super disorientated (multiple times). By the end I was orienteering so badly I had to keep stopping everytime I crossed a path and direction was often poor (maybe because I was carrying my headtorch by the end as it came half off which made it harder to be accurate with bearings)
