Running race (Transgrancanaria) 16:31:33 [5] 78.6 mi (12:37 / mi) +7630m 9:42 / mi
slept:0.0 shoes: Salomon sense ultra

4th! Very pleased with it being so early in the season and the last minute threat of a cold. Different course to last year and apparently less technical. I went off course a couple of times but not masses of time lost. In general I didn't feel hugely disadvantaged having not reccied the course.

Pacing: I'm happy with this. I stayed fairly consistently in 5th/6th position then put in a burst and moved into 4th with 12 miles to go.

Nutrition: Not too bad but not perfect. Mainly gels and Tailwind with added CP food. I wished I'd given Matt a few more savoury snacks for me as CP food was limited. Never dropped below 60g carb/hr (mainly more like 70-80g) but still had a couple of big lows (at 50k & 80k).

Climbs: Used poles from the start. I never felt super strong on the climbs but didn't feel bad either. I did get overtaken by a few men on the climbs.

Descents: Most of my overtaking was on the technical descents. I felt really good and definitely speeded on on these towards the end. Very little muscle soreness during the race.

Other: Started in the Hoka Speed Instincts but my toes felt a little squashed and 'vulnerable' (no rock plate) so I changed in to the Salomons at halfway which was a good move. No foot related pain at all for entire race.

Still not feeling 100%. Just a head cold I think. Felt a bit better after a post lunch lie down. Ran the last couple of miles of the course and felt ok, although it's hard to tell when taking it so easy. Still a tiny bit of tightness in my left hamstring.

I didn't run in the end as felt quite snuffly - wasn't sure if it was an aeroplane cold or a true cold coming on. Not feeling great ...

Out and back along the canal to kept as easy as possible. A little bit of residual tightness in my left hamstring but otherwise felt good. No pain in bruised areas! 4 x strides felt good.
35' hot bath post session - getting quite uncomfortable by the end (HR96)

Running (easy) 1:22:07 [2] 8.8 mi (9:20 / mi) +421m 8:07 / mi
slept:10.0 shoes: Hoka Speed Instinct 2

Mix of road and trails. Hamstrings a bit tight after yesterday but otherwise no issues. Slightly hillier than I intended. Will finds some flatter trails for the next few days.
25' hot bath post session
Ironically I just checked the weather and the forecast is for rain in GC next weekend!
