Running (Easy) 44:00 [2] 4.6 mi (9:34 / mi) +196m 8:27 / mi
slept:9.0 shoes: Hoka speed instinct 2

I ran around the fields at home with Matt. Feeling pretty fresh and generally quite excited. 6 x 12s hill sprints on the road. Felt strong and focused. Full warm up routine before and plenty of stretching afterwards.
We drove down to London in the afternoon. The forecast is now for 55mph winds! All ‘temporary’ structures (stands/marquees) have been taken down and the post race festival cancelled.

20' easy + fartlek: 10 x 1' @ 10km pace / 1' roll-on + 20' easy
Along the canal in the rain. Again. This was actually a harder session than I was expecting it to be. A little heaviness in my legs from yesterday so that spring wasn't quite there. Not a bad session though.
Massage later.

Running (moderate) 1:22:00 [3] 12.1 mi (6:47 / mi) +57m 6:41 / mi
slept:9.0 shoes: Hoka speed instinct 2

I waited all day for the weather to improve, which it didn't. I was a bit annoyed at having an unproductive day and subsequently felt quite demotivated for the session, plus I couldn't quite get excited about running in torrential rain again. Out & back on the High Peak Trail. All the stiffness from yesterday has gone. The first half I felt quite bloated & uncomfortable (probably too much fibre at lunch) but then my stomach settled for the second half. By the final few miles I'd given up dodging puddles and finally found a nice rhythm. I think I'm generally feeling quite good - if it wasn't for my mood, stomach and the rain it could have been a good session.

Running (easy) 1:20:00 [2] 8.0 mi (10:00 / mi) +370m 8:45 / mi
slept:7.5 shoes: Speedcross 5

A high gravity day. I'm not quite sure why. Fuelling ok, sleeping ok. Legs felt really heavy and generally a bit stiff. Hamstring tightness a bit worse than yesterday. I've booked a massage for Saturday which isn't ideal but hopefully a slot will free up before then.
11 AM

S&C (Upper & lower) 40:00 [1]

30' in the sauna for stretching after the session. Legs now feel A LOT better. All that stiffness almost gone.

Running (easy) 1:00:00 [2] 6.6 mi (9:05 / mi) +223m 8:14 / mi
slept:9.5 shoes: Inov8 X-talon

Usual route around the fields. My calves & hamstrings are a little tight again, R > L, but generally felt good otherwise. Not particularly fatigued. 6 x strideouts felt good.

Running (Fartlek) 2:02:00 [3] 17.5 mi (6:58 / mi) +13m 6:57 / mi
slept:8.0 shoes: Salomon Sonic RA

20' easy + fartlek 20km: 1k @ tempo / 1k roll-on + 20 easy
I slept from 2am-10am, which was great except for the fact I missed the window of good weather. This storm is called Freya apparently, and the rain was every bit as bad as it looked through the window.
I reluctantly switched my watch to metric for this, which was good because kilometre splits don't mean much to me so I had to do the session on feel. I did this on the canal. Lots of puddles/ flooding to dodge but at least it was relatively sheltered compared to any other options. A good session, I think. The first 4 efforts felt great. By the 5th/6th I was a little worried by how heavy my legs felt, but actually things didn't deteriorate further and I still felt reasonably strong on the fast couple of efforts. I think once my tights were soaked through my legs got a bit cold, despite my core being warm, which contributed to the 'heavy' feeling.
