Sunday Jan 28 #

11 AM

Running - trail long (Long run) 4:00:00 [3] 20.5 mi (11:42 / mi) +1759ft 10:50 / mi
slept:8.0

Long trail run on causeway coastal path. Out and back route. Dropped Billy at the start of the marathon route then drove round the coast to meet him so I could do less distance. Still ended up a good bit longer and further than expected. The trails, which are usually very runnable, were very wet and boggy due to the recent weather which slowed us down considerably, as did the strong wind on the way back. Felt empty for the last hour or so, definitely in fat burning territory.

Time and distance are approx as I wasn’t wearing a watch. Time also includes a few stops along the way.

Saturday Jan 27 #

12 PM

Running - road (Easy) 56:10 [2] 6.26 mi (8:58 / mi) +295ft 8:35 / mi
slept:7.0

Easy run with 6 x hill sprints

Felt lethargic when I got up and after dragging myself out the door, still felt lethargic. Still struggled to liven up during the hill sprints, which is unusual as I normally feel great during these. Second half of the run was spent running into some of the strongest winds I have run in, nearly took me off my feet on a few occasions.

Thursday Jan 25 #

7 PM

Running - road (Tempo) 1:00:42 [4] 8.73 mi (6:57 / mi) +216ft 6:48 / mi
slept:7.5

Solo run as club mates are all resting for Raheny! Not a great run, slowed considerably on the way home into the wind and driving rain. Felt quite good the first few miles but couldn’t sustain a decent pace for the last couple of miles. Somewhat disappointed as I don’t think it bodes well for Sunday as speed endurance seems to be lacking at the minute.

No injury issues - both calf and groin were fine.

Wednesday Jan 24 #

8 PM

Running - road (Easy) 50:32 [2] 6.0 mi (8:25 / mi) +196ft 8:10 / mi
slept:3.0

Easy run with 6 hill sprints. Couldn’t get to sleep last night then had to get up early for a work day trip to London. Thought I would feel like crap on this run but actually felt pretty good. Feeling a bit of a niggle in my groin again.

Tuesday Jan 23 #

6 PM

Treadmill (Easy) 40:00 [2] 5.0 mi (8:00 / mi)
slept:6.0

Easy run on treadmill following 45 min S&C session in the gym. Legs and body feeling quite good.

Monday Jan 22 #

7 PM

Running - road (Easy) 52:27 [2] 6.12 mi (8:34 / mi) +200ft 8:19 / mi
slept:7.0

Easy run followed by 6 strideouts. Could feel yesterdays run in the legs a bit but overall body felt pretty good.

It was nice to stretch out the legs at the end of the session with the strideouts.

Weather a bit milder which always helps.
