Felt tired and lethargic on this one. Think the last few days have caught up on me. Had done junior parkrun with the kids earlier and then sat around for a while with a “can’t be bothered” feeling! Got my wife to massage my calf a bit - turns out there was a knot in it which she managed to rub out. Followed the session as planned. Ran out and back on the coast road with a headwind on the way out so felt a bit better on the way back with the wind behind. Must have ran quite a bit quicker on the way back as I was a couple of minutes short in terms of overall time.

Ran along the coast road. Out and back with a loop of portballintrae. Nice evening for it, sunny but cool with a bit of a breeze. Felt fairly effortless and like I was just gliding along although started to feel a bit tired during the last mile. Still feeling the right calf a bit.

Parked up in an industrial estate close to the airport so I could get a few miles in prior to the 5k. Was feeling quite good during this.

Surprised myself in this race with quite a big PB! After the 5 mile race a couple of weeks ago I didn’t think I was in shape for this at all although I have been feeling fitter in training recently and doing a bit of fartlek and tempo running has definitely helped. Felt good from the start and was able to maintain sub 6 minute pace throughout. Perfect course for a PB.

Run around the playing fields with 6 diagonals at the halfway point. Started slowly and built up to a moderate pace as the legs still weren’t feeling particularly fresh, even with an enforced rest day yesterday (my flight home from a London day trip was delayed meaning I wasn’t home until 11pm). Felt ok in the end although could still feel my right calf a bit. Stopped a couple of times to stretch it out.

Took this run very easy as I was conscious that yesterday was my longest run in quite a while and also the culmination of my biggest mileage week in quite a long time also. Legs felt a bit tight in the hip area and also in my right calf. This had disappeared by the end of the run though.
