Running - trail (Specific endurance ) 3:00:54 [3] 19.21 mi (9:25 / mi) +2396ft 8:25 / mi
slept:7.0

Decided to head up to the causeway coast for this one. Coldish and very windy. Parked at a small car park and set off after some leg swings and lunges. My first reaction when I started running was that it was going to be a long day. Felt laboured at an easy pace and the wind was strong. This continued for about the first 45 mins and I was also finding the climbs tough. After that things got better and for the next hour or so I felt really good. I had turned around at the 90 min mark which coincided with the rock scramble at the end of white park bay so was a good place to turn anyway. Started to tire around the 2 hour mark but managed to continue on at a steady pace for the next hour. Feeling a bit stiff and tired now tonight. Glad to get a decent long run in though.

Drank 2.5 x 500ml bottles with Maurten mix. No gastric issues.

At present I’m thinking that I’m not going to do the Carlingford half next weekend, the last few weeks training haven’t been ideal due to having the cold etc and that I would just be doing it for the sake of it as I don’t feel that I am running particularly well at the minute.

Running - mixed terrain (Easy) 57:17 [3] 6.23 mi (9:12 / mi) +688ft 8:19 / mi

Easy run approx 50% on dusty/rocky trail and 50% on road. Warm and windy day. Feeling a bit tired today and legs / quads still a little sore but not as bad as yesterday. Flat sections felt best.

Finished with 6 strideouts which felt good.

Somewhat irrated with how the week has gone training wise although it has been a good holiday and nice to get some heat and relaxation. Some decent runs in the early part of the week but missed the long run and hill rep session. Have also done a lot of walking and swimming.

Running - road (Easy) 1:38 [2] 0.16 mi (10:14 / mi)
slept:8.0

Gave up pretty much as soon as I started. Legs felt awful, quads in particular. Didn’t think it would be wise to go through with the session so went back into the hotel and spent 30 mins in the gym on the cross trainer and stationary bike. Like a sauna in there. We did a lot of walking yesterday afternoon, about 7 miles, although I think it’s more to do with the hill run on Monday.

Running - road (Easy) 1:03:32 [2] 7.82 mi (8:07 / mi) +267ft 7:52 / mi
slept:7.0

Easy run, mainly along the seafront. Quite a cold and windy start to the day (still fine for shorts and T-shirt though). Still felt half asleep when I started out and took a few miles to get into my stride. Calf seems to be fine now, it was already improving and the massage seems to have helped also. My quads are however a bit painful when running downhill which is probably the result of the hill run a couple of days ago. Still not conditioned to the hills! Still planning to do the 5 min hill rep session tomorrow but will see how I feel during the warmup

Running - road (Moderate ) 1:21:42 [3] 10.73 mi (7:37 / mi) +543ft 7:16 / mi
slept:7.0

Mainly and back route along the seafront. Quite cool this morning due to being cloudy although was starting to get warmer towards the end of the run. Ran by feel so ended up running a bit faster/harder than originally intended. Felt generally good with no problems from the calf. Tired a bit towards the end on the hill back up towards the hotel. Got a sports massage st the hotel this afternoon and can’t feel any problems with the calf at all tonight

Running - trail (Moderate ) 1:05:32 [3] 6.53 mi (10:02 / mi) +1458ft 8:17 / mi
slept:7.0

Up fairly early this morning to run up the fairly steep hill beside my hotel. Nice sunny and clear day but not too warm at that time of the morning. Run felt good, feeling much better now that we’re settled in. The only problem I had was that I only have road shoes with me and the trail was rocky and dusty. Not so bad on the way up but had to be really careful on the descent. Calf still feeling a bit sore but not really troubling me during the run too much. It seems to tighten up after the run.
