Running - trail (Specific endurance ) 2:57:46 [3] 19.01 mi (9:21 / mi) +2372ft 8:22 / mi
slept:6.5 shoes: Nike Pegasus 36 Trail

Ran on the trails out and back from portballintrae, roughly 90 mins each way. As usual with the earlier starts for me it took a while to get into a rythym but settled into it after a few miles. Wasn’t too happy with my shoe choice. I wore the relatively new Pegasus trails which I was starting to like but they didn’t feel good on these trails. (My hoka challengers were thrown in the bin last week after I discovered they were torn down the outside - a new pair was ordered and have arrived today (Monday)). Nonetheless the “out” portion of the run went fairly well. Definitely felt more tired on the return than i have on other recent runs on this course although kept going at a steady enough pace. This could be partly down to fuelling. I had not packed any gels or tailwind before leaving for the caravan so had to buy the dreaded lucozade sport from the shop on Saturday night. Drank 3 bottles, roughly one per hour. Not something I intend to repeat again but it got me through.

Running - road (Moderate ) 1:14:48 [3] 10.59 mi (7:04 / mi) +478ft 6:46 / mi
slept:8.0 shoes: Nike Epic react (blue)

My wife and daughter were at Parkrun which allowed me time for a bit of a lie in followed by a small breakfast. Headed out into the the warm sunny weather when they got back. Stuck to the roads for this one and ran out along the coast road, loop around portballintrae and back along the coast road. Felt great for the most part with plenty of energy from start to finish. Had a tougher couple of miles at the start of the way back along the coast road as there was a strong wind and it is a steady uphill gradient. Adjusted pace accordingly. Finished strongly on the last mile or two back to the caravan site.

Note
slept:6.5 (rest day)

Was at the Open championship golf all day - 8am to 7pm - then out for dinner so couldn’t make a run. Had planned to get up early but didn’t really sleep well so gave up on that idea

Running - trail and road (Easy + hilly fartlek) 1:04:10 [4] 8.29 mi (7:44 / mi) +689ft 7:11 / mi
slept:6.0 shoes: Nike Epic react (blue)

Up at the caravan for a long weekend. Weather a bit unsettled at the minute, sunny one minute, torrential rain the next. Headed up the coast road for the easy warmup run then did a repeated loop for the 30 min hilly fartlek followed by the easy run back to the site. The loop took in the trail from the beach up to the coast road, part of the road itself and the road back down to the beach. I ran it in the direction that the trail would be the uphill part which took roughly 3 mins then back down the road was approx 2 mins so I did 6 loops. Found it tough enough but enjoyed working hard on the uphill section. Good workout.

Running - road (Easy) 53:37 [2] 6.64 mi (8:04 / mi) +206ft 7:51 / mi
slept:6.5 shoes: Hoka Clifton 4

Easy road run plus 6 hill sprints. Cool weather, actually bordering on cold, really refreshing. Felt tired again before going out, didn’t sleep well last night which was disappointing as I have been sleeping great recently. Perhaps the effect of being back at work. Started the run feeling pretty crappy but as usual felt much better as it progressed. Really enjoyed doing the hill sprints flat out after taking the first two a bit easier. Finished the run feeling great. Headed up to the caravan from tomorrow until Sunday, looking forward to a few runs on the north coast.

Running - Grass (Easy ) 1:02:34 [3] 7.75 mi (8:04 / mi) +253ft 7:50 / mi
slept:8.0 shoes: Hoka Clifton 4

Easy hour around Mallusk playing fields followed by 6 strideouts. Mild evening with a nice cool breeze. Felt tired on leaving work after a fairly hectic first day back after hols but knew I would feel better once I started running. Kept it nice and relaxed and enjoyed the easy pace in the cooler temps. Strideouts felt really good.

Running - road (Moderate ) 1:21:23 [3] 11.0 mi (7:24 / mi) +383ft 7:10 / mi
slept:7.0

Got back home at 1:30pm after a fairly early start in France. Managed to get an hours sleep late afternoon. Nice dry, warm and cloudy evening with a cool breeze. Couldn’t bear to sit on the turbo inside with those conditions so went out for a run instead. It was blissful to run in those conditions after the last two weeks of over 30 degree heat. Felt better as the run went on. It was also good to run on a few hills - the area we stayed in in France was pancake flat. Back to work tomorrow.
