Running - road (Specific endurance ) 2:06:00 [4] 18.48 mi (6:49 / mi) +749ft 6:34 / mi
slept:8.5 shoes: Nike Next% (size 12)

Cold morning with some ice still on the roads. My planned route was to run out to Larne and back. Felt quite good initially and settled into a decent rythym up to mile 9. Things started to take a turn for the worse on the way back out of Larne at miles 10 and 11 though which is a fair climb up the dual carriageway. These two miles are just over 200 feet of climb and I started to feel quite bad. Felt a bit better when I got to the top of this section although the next 4 miles along the dual carriageway are gradually uphill but not as steep. After another couple of miles I was feeling really tired with sore quads and stopped and sat on a crash barrier for a few mins. Contemplated calling for a lift home but got up and felt ok running again and got back on pace but I was still feeling tired so decided to call it quits when passing close to home again. Really disappointed with how this turned out although it’s probably reflective of how I’ve been feeling all week. Pretty sure I couldn’t have gone another 8 miles at this pace. Would a couple of rest days be a good idea to try to get out of this lull?
In terms of nutrition, I took one gel at 45 mins, another at 1hr15 and another at 1hr45. Probably would have been ok to take more. One bottle of water.

Running - road (Easy) 1:13:57 [3] 10.03 mi (7:22 / mi) +359ft 7:08 / mi
slept:8.0 shoes: Nike Pegasus Turbo 2 - black

Easy road run in heavy wind and rain with 8 speed variations. Felt good today and enjoyed the run in spite of the weather. Finished feeling quite fresh

Treadmill (Easy) 45:00 [2] 5.16 mi (8:43 / mi)
slept:7.0 shoes: Nike Next% (size 12)

Easy treadmill run after work. Felt ok, with some tightness still in the legs (quads). Wore my new Nike next % as a trial run. These felt ok - they felt better when I ran at marathon pace for a minute than they did at easy pace

Running - road (Moderate ) 1:02:27 [3] 8.74 mi (7:09 / mi) +282ft 6:56 / mi
slept:7.5 shoes: Nike Pegasus Turbo 2 - black

Milder night but windier. Did an out and back route from home with the wind on my back on the way out and in my face on the way home. Perhaps unsurprisingly then I felt quite good and comfortable on the way out and not so good and like it was a bit of a struggle on the way back. This was the main reason why I cut it a bit shorter than planned. Legs a bit better than last night but still some tightness in the quads. Disappointingly I felt like I was running a good bit quicker than the average pace would suggest when I finished. Sunday’s run must have taken quite a lot out of me (although it didn’t really feel like it at the time).

Running - road (Easy with speed variation) 1:17:46 [3] 10.01 mi (7:46 / mi) +288ft 7:34 / mi
slept:6.0 shoes: Nike Epic React - White

Easy run with 8 speed variations. Bitterly cold evening with some drizzle but only light winds. Legs felt quite bad tonight for some reason, even though I spent more time than normal going through a warm up routine. The inner quad area and calves are feeling tight. I have however gone for a massage tonight which will hopefully help loosen things up.

Easy run followed by 6 strideouts. Felt fine tonight, legs still a bit tight but overall body feeling good. Another nice night for running.

Treadmill (Easy) 48:55 [3] 5.25 mi (9:19 / mi)
slept:5.0 shoes: Nike Epic react (blue)

Didn’t sleep well last night, probably because I napped shortly after I got back from yesterday’s long run and then felt wide awake when I went to bed, so have felt quite tired all day. Legs have felt a bit stiff also. Opted for the treadmill as it is a crappy night, windy and heavy rain, and coupled with the tiredness made me not feel like going out. In fact I didn’t really feel like running at all. Treadmill felt like a bit of a plod and my legs felt tired, nothing too extreme but more tired than they have done after the last few Sunday runs. I’m sure they will be fine tomorrow. Need to get a massage this week.
