REST 1 [3]

Rest day that included a nice 10km easy cycle with Ab (actually got a couple of minutes in high heart rate zone - so must be in need of recovery or else watch is dodgy!). Then in the afternoon a visit to Lucky Hit with Jo for orienteering where I walked about 4km on the mid-week training map. David set me straight a couple of times. I'm really good at seeing features now that just aren't on the map! (vegetation, tracks, pits, saddles, ditches, etc. etc.) but am sometimes NOT seeing things like 'open ground' that are on the map (or were there once). Have to learn to understand what they bother to map and what they don't! For some reason wrists and hands are playing up - strange aches and pains and lost strength and rhs ring finger gave lots of trouble out of the blue.

Saturday May 12 #

Running 21:45 [3] 5.0 km (4:21 / km)

A course PB at Carisbrooke on a crisp morning, no company today. Leg/buttock felt fine, almost 100%; just a small twinge in the hammy area (where I used to get deep pain down at Torrens years ago). Hopefully healing and getting nutrients I need after modified diet. No excuse not to run hard today! But did notice patches where I just dropped right off - lost rhythm, real mental effort to move legs faster and pick up pace, then not sure they responded fully. Need to have many more months/weeks of running under my belt. Might have gone off too fast but it felt good, smooth and easy for longer than I might have hoped!

Cycling 43:00 [3] 15.0 km (2:52 / km)

15Km afternoon cycle along Precolumb, sunny but quite cold! Felt good and legs strong. A little faster than normal (like just over 20kph average), no Strava segment records. Just a nice day to be out.

Friday May 11 #

Running 1:30:00 [3] 12.0 km (7:30 / km)

12km around Para Wirra taking advantage of the free entry for May (meaning I don't have to borrow the CFS pass). Devil's Nose track and then down, then everything seemed UP! Worked out where the tracks actually go compared to the map I have. Leg reasonable - it's the feet today that were a little cranky! (when did I get old!!). Certainly felt a challenging run although was slow and I kept telling myself I was allowed to do a 'long run' because I was taking it as a recovery run and could go easier; but tired now!

Thursday May 10 #

Running 35:00 [3] 7.0 km (5:00 / km)

Tried to find the modified Gawler parkrun route and failed miserably! Ended up doing about 7km and some 50m strides at the end. Leg not 100% but easing pace ever so often reduced discomfort (in hammy/groin/top of leg area today). Wanted to do more.

Wednesday May 9 #

Running 13:40 [3] 3.0 km (4:33 / km)

Buttock much better today after rest and pushing on with the spiky ball. Did the Garmin 3km challenge to run as fast as you can and beat yesterday. Walked up hill and jogged 1.5km to the Crows House then did my usual route back, getting one of my faster times on the segment (5:50). Felt 'ok' when extended leg back, more in the inner thigh and hamstring today. Sat on tennis ball and massaged thigh over lunch and was greatly improved again. Weird how it (pain /knots / whatever) 'shifts' around. Might have found a physio that sounds ok on Smart Rd.. http://www.physiofitadelaide.com.au/ if I forget, but will wait and see a little more.

Cycling 37:00 [3] 12.0 km (3:05 / km)

Felt like a cycle and just went up and down Precolumb; on the last leg back I went as fast as I could and felt great for about 1 minute as I hit 30kph! Had a tempo stimulating tune in my head!

Have to give in to a day off to see if the irritation in buttock eases. Seemed to aggravate it after trying to release a possible 'knot'; then stretching didn't help. Wish I knew what it was. Wish I knew a good physio close by.

Monday May 7 #

Swimming 1:10:00 [3] 2.8 km (25:00 / km)

Swim today and felt good in new costume; it wasn't too tight. Buttock improved from last time, but still not kicking as hard as I might. Did 2 x 1km, 500m and then a bit. Goggles and hat gave problems (must get a tighter fitting one). Gave up doing turns after that seemed to cause problems. Lost count of laps during the 500m, accidentally stopped watch during first km and watch also threw some lap count errors - so not sure exactly how far I went! but at least 2.5Km. Felt good but actually was quite slow in elapsed time (24:39 and 24:08 for the 1 kms).

Running 23:00 [3] 4.0 km (5:45 / km)

I think I'm in over-do-it mode. Was going to take girls for a run tonight (and do about 4km myself) but road was blocked with accident and couldn't even get out after school! So I went from home and did 3 x long hill. I thought I was flying and it was going to be another PB; it also felt HARD, like I was going fast, but it wasn't anything special (3:18,3:21,3:23). Maybe I need to recover!! .. oh yes right buttock was 'aching' but mainly solid for running (feels weak and still hurts when do strength/resistance band).
