Cycling 1:11:00 [3] 21.0 km (3:23 / km)

Cycle with Abigail and a really sore back, rib cage and left side. After half way my left glute was also cranky (Oh no...the right side has only just got better)... but eased later. Lots of tumeric, massage, heat and rest at home. Got steps with a short walk around Curtis Rd lakes with Joanna in the afternoon. Not the day I planned :( but at least I was out ... and hey ... I even had company!

Running 21:33 [3] 5.0 km (4:19 / km)

Gawler parkrun for their 1st birthday. Woke with a sore left glute / hip (maybe from the strain while cutting toenails; or maybe from the jog yesterday where I drove more from my hips) and wasn't sure I'd be able to do more than a jog today, but all was well once I got going. Managed a course PB on the way out (by 2 seconds!), but was slower on the way back (meaning no overall PB today; in fact quite a way off). Glad everything is relatively 'sound' and no new niggles although feeling old in general, like I'm just hanging on to fitness and not improving.

Walk/Jog 37:00 [3] 6.0 km (6:10 / km)

A quick morning jog from home (haven't run local for ages!). No problems, but tired. Noticed that the warmup exercise (sort of rapidly moving right leg, lifting knee; then left leg same) gave me a spurt when I tried it about half way. Think it made me use my glute muscles / side hip muscles a little more.

Cycling 1:10:00 [3] 23.0 km (3:03 / km)

Went out for a ride venturing down Yorktown Rd and surprised myself coming back up. The bike adjustments were great! Nothing wobbled loose! And my speed improved; seat height helped most I think (but still not confident enough to have it higher) and also decided to use highest gear and just stood up, not worrying about cadence and low gears.

Running 24:00 [3] 3.5 km (6:51 / km)

Went to the oval in the afternoon and did about 3.5Km (but didn't quite get target steps). Discovered that the edge I've been using is about 60m and that straight down the middle is about 120m. So I did 5x120m and 6x60m with a final 120m. Garmin says pace was 3:46,3:46,3:46,3:45,3:46 and then 3:51,3:41,3:25,3:48,3:38,3:32 so quite erratic on the shorter efforts (if I can believe the pace estimates) and more consistent on the longer ones. The final longer effort was 3:38 so faster than all the initial ones and just off the mean of the shorter efforts, telling me perhaps I don't know quite how fast I can run for a given distance. That may or may not be useful! Old RHS glute area a little tender (needs massage?) but everything else I was worried about was ok. Now to finish off those steps!

REST 1 [3]

Rest day today, got my steps with shopping, market, library etc. and a 10km walk once the rain had stopped. Cold. Left glute still tender and stiff; and left achilles area complaining a little. Back/spine much improved, but consumed copious amounts of gluten last night so will see how that goes in terms of aches and pains!

Cycling 2:14:00 [3] 40.0 km (3:21 / km)

Did 6 x 6.25km circuits around local roads (19:17, 19:06, 19:29, 19:11, 19:55, 30:35). Enjoyed new seat height until everything came unstuck on the last circuit... in fact whole seat began to wobble, tilted backwards and refused any adjustment; bag rubbing on wheel alerted me to problem. Stopped twice to try and sort it out.

Left glute muscle also had a problem today (after cutting my toe nails last night and perhaps over stretching to reach?). In the morning it felt 'tight', was stiff when squatting and hurt a lot when extended leg back (especially as leaned to right); initial few steps out of bed were impossible. Improved with massage enough to walk, and was ok cycling; better again after tennis ball. Not sure what else to do other than time and making sure nothing aggravates it (and that includes too much 'massage' since I think that has been a problem too sometimes when it has felt like this).

Running 1:02:00 [3] 9.0 km (6:53 / km)

A run at Morialta, minus lunch, after dropping off the girls. Went up Deep View in just under 7min but felt unusually tired in legs, then jogged round to the centre path. Found a new sign and ran from that up to the start of concrete corrugation (just over 1 min uphill interval). Did 6 repeats (1:24,1:18,1:15,1:15,1:19,1:12) and was pretty pleased with how everything held out. Jogged back down and met lots of people who stopped me and asked 'how far?'; I wasn't sure how to answer because it depends where they wanted to go! Felt sluggish once I hit the road. I wanted to go fast; just didn't happen today - must have been low energy!
