Orienteering race 54:50 [4] 6.98 km (7:51 / km) +188m 6:55 / km
(injured) shoes: NVII Forest 1

Scottish 6 days - Day 6
With both ankles strapped up to immobility and James Errington 6 minutes behind me overall I had to put maximum effort in today to stay ahead of him.
Unfortunately I made a a major 6 minute mistake going to control 2, running straight past it until I reached control 4. After that I was fine, navving, running and contouring pretty well, a few micro errors (running to the wrong spur, bananaing a bit much). Probably one of my better races of the week (although the with it being such a fast area, the results did not reflect this).

For anyone reading this entry that was uploaded 2 weeks after the race itself, James Errington beat me by 5 seconds over the 6 days. I was not happy at the time and still have not quite got over it.

Scottish 6 Days - Day 5: Craig a Barns WRE Long
What a nightmare.
Made poor route choices and mistakes on controls 2,3 and 4 before settling into the map, by which time I must have been around 20 minutes behind.
Middle section I was pretty happy with, took a longer route choice on the long leg 9-10, but I needed a break from navving after my crap start.
Last few controls didn't all go well. I found it hard to distinguish between large and small crags, and consequently lost minutes making mistakes and poor route choices. I stood directly on top of one control that had been tucked right under the crag (overhanging heather had hidden it), and I went over on my right ankle this time quite badly and had to limp over the finish line.

Scottish 6 Days - Day 4
As much of a fell race as an orienteering race.
Ran, route planned well, nav was a bit off when taking bearings on a couple of occasions.
Only 2 mistakes, but one of them was a 10 minute EPIC. As with day 1, it was the final approach that let me down. I had to run doubled over due to the low branches and kept my eyes on the map/compass/ feet as opposed to on the surroundings. I must have run through the control circle without seeing the control, panicked, then spent 10 minutes running around trying to find my way back to the control site.
Final mistake was being dragged too far along a stream by the contours, lost a couple of minutes.
Happier with this one, although it was less technical than previous days.

Orienteering race 19:35 [3] 4.0 km (4:54 / km) +80m 4:27 / km
shoes: Inov8 roclites 290

Rest day sprint around Crieff.
Cruised around not wanting to overdo it with my ankle feeling a bit sore. No major mistakes, but missed a small alleyway on the map which would have saved 15 seconds

Run warm up/down 8:00 [2] 1.4 km (5:43 / km) +15m 5:25 / km
shoes: Inov8 roclites 290

WU & CD with Mary and Nath

Orienteering race 1:05:28 [4] 6.36 km (10:18 / km) +189m 8:58 / km
shoes: NVII Forest 1

Scottish 6 Days Day 3 - Middle Distance WRE
Only 1 mistake around this one! Made a 90 error by running along the wrong side of a marsh. Compass didn't settle fast enough.
Happy with this race, steady and consistent, happy with my route choices and nav, but I went over on my ankle early on which forced me to slow down, so didn't get under the hour like I wanted to.

Orienteering race 1:42:20 [4] 10.94 km (9:21 / km) +416m 7:52 / km
shoes: NVII Forest 1

Scottish 6 Days - Day 2
When Rhys says its tough, you know you're in for a tough day out.
Lost 8 minutes by control 8 by not reading/ running along contours properly. The second half of the course was a lot more physically demanding than the first half, although it was helped by the number of trods that had formed by having a late start.
Fewer mistakes than yesterday, but I didn't have the power or energy to be as fast as I expected myself to be given the amount of training I've been doing (maybe overdone it a bit??)
