Cumbrian Galoppen @ Hawse End. Brown - 3rd (4th including n/c Cat)
Was feeling rough that morning but after a bit of food felt good to take the race hard. Navigated reasonably accurately on relatively straight forward but vague and fast terrain being very careful to be at the right height on the slopes. Started watch late at ~#1 so rounded distance up to 10km and used results time

O training 54:06 [2] 4.92 km (11:00 / km) +168m 9:24 / km
shoes: Falcons 1

2 corridor courses. First one shadowed by Cat, it went well but she pointed out that when I did lose it a bit it was during the last ~20% of the long legs so to make sure I hold the focus. 2nd course was alright too, got a little muddled by a set of parallel re-entrants but got it sorted.
2 PM

O training 26:05 [3] 2.45 km (10:39 / km) +43m 9:47 / km
shoes: Falcons 1

Route choice course with Matt R. Straight was best but climb made you choose to go off the red line.

O training 13:53 [2] 1.5 km (9:15 / km) +33m 8:20 / km
shoes: Falcons 1

Just a standard loop without a compass to focus more only on features.
6 PM

O training 1:04:41 [2] 6.03 km (10:44 / km) +145m 9:35 / km
shoes: Falcons 1

Night O, The M18L course from British Night Champs 2017 that I retired from (except the bit over the fence outside the scout centre). Got it all and got most of the controls fine. A couple of mistakes and a small bit of confusion every now and then cos I used the race map but some controls were hung on a different feature in the circle but visible. I managed to mess up the last control though cos of trying to avoid the newly expanded lake then getting confused afterwards but I'm glad I managed to do the controls I couldn't do last time! Compared my splits with the race and whilst my splits weren't stellar I don't know how they would have been had I been actually running the real thing. While the weather was less misty I don't know how much the other runners in the forest would have helped (and obvs that pesky pond wouldn't have been there too!) :)
