Orienteering 1:38:26 [3] 3.38 mi (29:07 / mi)

This was a fun training activity. We had to navigate from control to control using our own hand-drawn maps. So after I found each control, I would sit down and look at the actual map and then simplify it onto a piece of paper (eg. follow the stream to the hill line, stay on the south side of the marsh). I, for the most part, surprisingly found the controls, with the exception of 9 and 7 (9 was the only one in which I eventually used the actual map to navigate).

Orienteering 44:42 [3] 1.82 mi (24:34 / mi)

Afternoon training activity. It involved pace counting (which I'm bad at) and relocation (which I'm good at). Basically, you take a bearing, figure out your pace count, put away your map, and run in that direction. Unless you hit it dead on, you probably don't know exactly where you are, so you need to relocate and see how good your pace count was. From there, you adjust it if need be and repeat.
I was okay at it, but there was a stupid amount of spiders so that was terrible, especially since I think I ate one.

Orienteering race 32:18 [3] 2.4 km (13:27 / km)

Night-O. It was probably 2.4 km, but I don't quite remember.
I think this was my last year wimping out and running Intermediate. It was just a little too easy. Still, the woods are really dark at night and I'm honestly scared of getting lost out there in dark. But I'll be running Advanced next year, so we'll see if it is as bad I've imagined.
