Long MapI have a new computer that doesn't have Quick Route yet, and the WiFi here is so unpredictable, so Keegan let me use his computer to put this up (thank you!)
- I took the trail all the way around and nailed it, but I still don't know if it was the best choice. I'm not in shape enough to 'run' (jog) the trail fast enough for it to be really worth. I think if I had gone straight and nailed it, that would have been faster, but since a lot of people went straight and messed up, idk. My way was definitely safer, if a lot more boring. (Also, yay! Water stop, my throat needed it)
- I had a moment of "Oh no, I don't want to go through a marsh and get my shoes wet" and then I realized that this place is about as dry as it gets, and sure enough, the marsh was just a field. I hit the cliff 4 was on dead on, and I knew it was at the bottom of the cliff, but I just couldn't see it. I was probably about four ft from the control and still couldn't see it. I circled around and finally found it on a tiny path between two bushes.
- I did what I meant to, but slowly and with uncertainty. I got to the area SE of the hill top and thought I knew where I was (and I was correct), but when I saw the control I hesitated for a bit too long. I noticed this yesterday, but I've been slipping back into struggling with confidence while orienteering. I just haven't done much technical work this year, and I really messed up the sprint, so I've been doubting myself more than I should. (Also, water stop again! My throat does not like the smoke/dust)
- Haha this was not good. I got so close to 7, but didn't know where I was along the line and then, for some reason, decided to back track to a control that obviously wasn't mine. Finally, I bailed to the trail and attacked from the bend in the trail. Again, I should have been more confident, but I also should have kept closer contact with my map.
