Running (trail/fell) 6:31:28 [3] 29.75 mi (13:10 / mi) +1905m 10:59 / mi

Race - peak skyline

Set off near the front with a group of about 7. At the top of the first climb a lady was pointing to the corner of a field. We all followed after about 5’ we’d done a complete circle and was back where we started so had to run through the back of the pack.

Was going fine till about mile 19. Id eaten well drink plenty. But I had nothing in me. It’s strange this keeps happening but I don’t know why was defiantly physical and not mental I wanted to push on but nothing there, was a horrible feeling that I couldn’t shift. To sum up ran this course 6 years ago and did a 5.40. Training has gone really well recently and yet I’m nearly an hour slower.

Running (trail/fell) 42:13 [3] 5.45 mi (7:45 / mi) +50m 7:32 / mi

30’ easy and strideouts

Hip mobility/ warm up as per plan

Was relatively warm when I set off. Ran at the back of the hospital in the nature reserve a bit of a mix of gravel, small paths and open fields.

Kept the pace light the legs quickly turning over nicely. Didn’t realise that I was meant to do strideouts yesterday and till I relooked at the plan this morning. Strideouts tonight just felt a little sluggish and not sure why. But otherwise a good run and ready to race.

Got to Stockport tonight to break the journey up. Not picked the best accommodation which can only be described as a shit hole. Forgot my soft flask for my race pack but bought some water from Tescos and the bottle seems to fit the pocket nicely, The race seems on expecting wet conditions under foot but everyone had to deal with that.

Running (trail/fell) 30:16 [3] 3.9 mi (7:46 / mi) +6m 7:43 / mi

30' easy

hip mobility / warm up as per plan
Run along the towpath. The quads felt heavy for the first 5' or so but then felt good and into a nice rhythm. felt strange to be out for a shortened time. got home and found out that buxton has had severe flooding with bridges and roads being swept away. So need to keep an eye on the race incase they cut the route or worse, the race.

Wednesday Jul 31 #

Running (trail/fell) 1:07:56 [3] 8.76 mi (7:45 / mi) +10m 7:44 / mi

60' with strikeouts x6

Warm up / hip mobility as per plan.

The weather was wet tonight and felt a little reluctant to push myself outside the door. However once moving was glad i had and was too bad. The quads felt a bit heavy but moving well. Soon in to a rhythm. the weather improved after about 20' and stopped raining. There were a few patches of standing water on the towpath but fairly good underfoot and improved by the fact that the waterways have cut back some of the under growth.

strideouts felt good and the legs feel fresh and ready to get going this weekend.

Tuesday Jul 30 #

Running (road) 1:02:28 [3] 7.7 mi (8:07 / mi) +128m 7:43 / mi

20' easy - 6x30" hill rep - 20' easy

hip mobility / warm up as per plan.

set off with fairly good legs a touch heavy in the quads but felt fairly fresh. my stride felt good. Ran this on the road tonight so that i could use my usual hill.

30" hill reps felt good but with each rep my effort improved. by the 6th rep it felt good was pushing hard. had a decent recovery between each rep made sure my breathing was back under control and ready for the next effort.

20' to cool down felt ok the legs still seemed fresh after the hill reps.
The weather was wet today but stopped raining for tonights session although there was some thunder. Felt warm but nowhere near as heavy as last week.

same session as yesterday

Monday Jul 29 #

Running (trail/fell) 55:47 [3] 7.29 mi (7:39 / mi) +23m 7:35 / mi

60' (diagonals)

hip mobility / warm up as per plan

set off with fresh legs. kept my form felt light in the legs with a high knee and an upright position. Felt good as though i was skipping over the ground effortlessly.

diagonals felt decent. About the 4th my weight seemed to shift onto my forefoot without thinking about it and the 5th diagonal my stride length increased. Most importantly my hips are now feeling loose enough to allow my stride to increase. just felt like my legs knew what to do without having to think about it. Felt spot on.

Back end of the run felt good still the legs felt fresh and the pace felt easy / effortless. into a good rhythm with the legs just pushing along nicely. overall a really good run.

Sunday Jul 28 #

Running (trail/fell) 59:46 [3] 7.53 mi (7:56 / mi) +7m 7:55 / mi

60’ easy

Hip mobility / warm up as per plan

Moving well today not major fatigue in the legs from yesterday’s run. Arguably felt a little tight in the hip flexor but stretched it off post run and felt good. The legs were into a good rhythm very quickly. Very wet out today but at least with the fresher conditions I’m sleeping much better.
