On a mission to reclaim two of my course records in Durham, and gain one I never held. The first was a 3 minute long technical undulating climb which I was quite far back off the pace, made harder that a tree had fallen across the path.

Then onto the big one the steps descent, 45m of descent down winding steps through the trees (average of -21%) which my previous pb was set in 2017 and had lasted as the course record until Arthur decided to form a group, led by himself, to systematically target and take my course records. He succeeded back in November 2019 and as this was my first time back in Durham since then I had to do my best to reclaim it. I had two pops at it and smashed it on the second attempt, knocking off 7 seconds off my time and 4 seconds faster than Arthur's to put it to 36s.

Then after an extra jog round the classic climb of houghall I attempted to reclaim my last segment of the day, the descent of the original climb I tried. Knowing this would be made harder than last spring when I attempted to regain it and I was 2s off because of the tree that had fallen I set off bombing it, but after 300m or so I missed the turning and had to start back from the start again. When I eventually got to the tree I managed to manoeuvre my body between its three trunks fairly gracefully and didn't lose too much time (upon later analysis this was found to be 2s lost). I got to the bottom after a slight slip on a slippery bit near the end pretty pleased, couldn't have done it much better. So then to find out I had missed out by only 1s I was rather annoyed, Michael H has this for another good while.

The day after Arthur matched my 36s descent so we currently share the course record.

Although I went over my weekly distance by about 500m, I did walk at least that as part of the run, so target is not exceeded, now no running until Edinburgh for my 26.6km week.

I was planning to go mountain biking in hamsterley, but my second bike broke the day before so I couldn't. Went to the nets again for a very poor session, just trying too hard I think. Attempted some medium pace and couldn't get it to pitch between a beamer and a bouncer, not ideal

Guesses on distance as I couldn't find my watch. Night score in meanwood park, went off the map trying to take a shortcut and got rather stuck, then faffing about as usual. Will try and use these more as linear training in future because once I've unfolded my map and written on the number then working out where next to go I've lost my bearings a little bit. Orienteering not great, too wary to look at my map and compass enough for fear of tripping over a rock or something. Did the forest controls with a very unoptimal route and ran out of time for the urban ones.
