Running race (Trail) 5:20:00 [5] 28.0 mi (11:26 / mi) +1800m 9:32 / mi

Transvulcania Marathon

Really cold, wet and windy to start. Bus dropped me off 90 minutes before the start and I did get a bit cold, should have been more prepared but wasn't expecting it. Took the first few miles steady to warm up and see how the legs felt after the VK. Maybe should have pushed a bit harder from the off as I did get stuck in queues (lots of ultra runners) once the trails narrowed.
Legs felt strong on the uphills and I was eating plenty early on, keen to make the most of the cooler conditions while I was still in the cloud. Hard to get a good consistent pace with so many people on a narrow trail.
Continued feeling strong all the way up to Roque so I decided I wanted to carry on. Took a bit of time at the aid station as I'd cut my hand and needed it cleaned, went to the toilet and had some food before heading off at a steady pace.
The first few kilometres of the descent I felt really good until I started to get some GI distress (may have eaten too much the day before or the heat may have gotten to me) so I slowed right down to a jog. Continued at a very easy pace for the rest of the race, paying close attention to how my legs were feeling and not working them too hard.
I think I struggled a bit with the heat and couldn't handle much more than water/juice/fruit at the aid stations and probably didn't get enough calories in during the second half of the race. My quads felt a bit sore on some of the really steep road sections towards the bottom but overall held up pretty well.
Finihsed feeling pretty comfortable and not too stiff/sore right now (6 hours later)

Running (Trail) 1:30:00 [1] 8.3 mi (10:51 / mi) +600m 8:51 / mi

Legs felt a bit tired but generally good. Took things really easy, didn’t look at my watch at all, just went off feel. Stopped to take pictures a couple of times. Quite hot.

Transvulcania VK

Feel like I paced myself really well, kept a really consistent effort all the way. Really focused on form and rhythm which helped. Last 10-15 minutes I started to tire a bit, particularly in my right leg, and my form started to slip a bit. Overall, really happy with how I ran and my time.

Running (Road) 1:05:00 [1] 7.5 mi (8:40 / mi) +230m 7:55 / mi

Had a good night's sleep to catch up after a few tiring days. Felt good, a bit cooler in the morning shade. Left leg felt similar to yesterday, better at the end than start. Did 6 hill sprints around half way around, felt better after doing them.

Running (Road) 1:00:00 [1] 7.4 mi (8:06 / mi) +150m 7:38 / mi

Bit tired from traveling but felt ok with an easy pace. Left leg felt quite good, particularly towards the end. Did six strides afterwards which didn’t feel very smooth, a bit of pain crept into my left leg which threw me off a bit.

Running (Road) 1:20:00 [3] 11.6 mi (6:54 / mi) +150m 6:38 / mi

Had an early night to try and catch up on sleep after the weekend. Had two pieces of toast w/ pb and a smoothie 90 mins before. Left lower leg felt a bit dead for the first 5k but good from then on and much better than usual at the end.

Running (Trail) 1:00:00 [1] 5.9 mi (10:10 / mi) +275m 8:53 / mi

Pretty tired after working all through the previous night and not getting home till 3pm. Really warm as well so I took it super easy. My route wasn't best suited to strides (very uneven) so I just threw in some fast surges towards the end of the run.
