Duddon Valley Fell Race - 20th

Tough work. Was worried I’d gone out too hard after Harter Fell so eased off a bit up hardknott and little stand which was tough but didn’t feel too bad coming off it. Felt good after wrynose and was moving well up to swirl how, catching up to the group in front in the process. Quads started to really struggle coming off swirl how though, particularly on the descents and just couldn’t get going after that. By the time I got to the steep descent off of white pike they were completely gone and it was just a painful and slow struggle to the finish from there. Happy with how I fuelled and paced it. Never felt like I was going to bonk or blow up which were my two main worries but on the day my legs just couldn’t handle the climb or distance. To be expected as I haven’t been doing any sort of long runs or days in the fells leading up to this but hopefully this sort of fitness comes as I do more fell races. Legs in a bit of a state afterwards but hopefully they’ll recover by ennerdale next weekend.
