Day 2 at Lapland Lake skiing. Skiing with Speedy. While grooming was excellent for most of the tracks, new wet snow and warm conditions (up to + 5 C) made it slower for wax-skies combination we were using. Just required a little more effort from our tired bodies.

We arrived at Lapland Lake with the start of snowfall, it made for very beautiful woods, a little bit challenging to see anything while flying down hills. Despite fresh snow, gliding was excellent, base was firm. I felt great all the way for 2 + hours, going up steep hills was manageable all the way to the end. Looks like some malfunction of my Polar watch, it did not register last 38 minutes.

Day 2 at Lapland Lake: skiing with Speedy. Cold, great new tracks, Olavi tilled icy areas well into snow powder, close to perfect gliding, firm tracks. We picked up effort and speed after 20 min.warm up pace. Felt great, had plenty of power, considering 2 hours skiing yesterday.

Last training after 20 min food brake. Bernie's family all present, skiing and snowshoeing, great to see them. Bernie, Liisa and kids are staying for one more day, Speedy and Z-man are working Monday, we had to go back home tonight. Skied perimeter loop with Speedy, easier effort, energy levels werer fine almost all the way to the end. Last 10 min. or so started to feel tired.
If weather will permit, we will go skiing one more time this season.

Late start skiing at Lapland Lake. Our weekly mini training camp today included lots of driving for Speedy: first drop off Zhervev @ JFK, pick-up me, then Z-man in New Jersey. Gliding was excellent today, but hard tracks were glazed and icy in some spots, difficult to get a full edge while pushing off. Long weekend, great weather - lots of people on course. Time includes a short brake for food. Z-man was "classic" skiing, checking out his new Fisher set-up.

Day 2 at Lapland Lake, skiing with Speedy after waxing our skies - better gliding and harder tracks, than yesterday, close to perfect conditions for skiing. I felt yesterday's workouts in my body, legs and arms did not have much spring today. Side note: it was -19C this morning, but by the time we hit the trailes, manageable -6C, -2C when we left.

@ Lapland Lake. Day two started with same 2 loops as yesterday, Speedy was going with his own pace. I felt much better balance wise, due to somewhat groomed tracks, much easier to get an edge then yesterday. No falls today. Mostly enjoyed this one.

After 15 min. rest, GU and tea went for final workout of this mini training camp: one loop, taking it easier, no reason to kill myself here. With exception of Christmas and New Year's weekends, this is a second bad season for cross-country skiing in our part of the country. There is always next year, and this one is not over yet.

Skiing with Speedy at Lapland Lake. Very hard surface, about 0.5" of snow on top of ice base. not much rest going down hills. But, still happy that we could ski after all the rain this week. Couple of falls on a second loop.
