Friday Jan 31 #

tried Jake Brown's Salomon Skating Skis - very stable, very fast on hard cold snow, better balance than mine.
12 PM

skiing (skating style) 53:00 intensity: (5 @0) + (33:29 @1) + (17:50 @2) + (1:36 @3) 7.24 km (7:19 / km) +114m 6:47 / km

Here is the scoop of the day: two Russians, originally from Moscow Region, currently living, one in Texas, and another in New York, managed to have a near head on collision, on one of the most remote spots of Craftsbury ski trail network. He got bruised shin and I got bruised calve muscle. I broke my right pole, he did the same to his left, so after talking to each other, I gave him my good pole, took his bad one, so he can continue, and I was no shape to ski much with right calf damaged. Slowly walked on skis to the center, we talked more, exchanged poles back. and it would be the end of the story, but Sharon came by, and offered to buy the remainder of his broken pole, that would be perfect for her classic set. Yes, The Sharon, and she is racing 2 ski marathons here this weekend. Sara Mae and Larry are here, too.

Note

had an appointment with local Chiropractor, Gina Davis. she did excellent job on my back, it has been neglected by me for years. Too bad I most likely will not ski tomorrow or run for next 10 days or so.

Thursday Jan 30 #

2 PM

skiing (skating style) 1:00:01 intensity: (17:58 @1) + (23:53 @2) + (17:10 @3) + (41 @4) + (19 @5) 15.75 km (3:49 / km) +240m 3:32 / km
ahr:119 max:194 slept:8.0 shoes: Atomic WC Skating

scraped my skis with cold weather Kuzmin scraper (first test for me), and tested my old Atomics. They felt fantastic, +1 Leonid Kuzmin, one more time.
Since it is 5-th day in a row, effort was mostly easy for this 56 y.o. body. I would need a full rest day, or two for a hard workout, but do not have the luxury of it at this time, with skiable snow cover far from NYC.
4 PM

skiing (commute) 37:35 intensity: (32 @0) + (15:37 @1) + (19:27 @2) + (1:43 @3) + (6 @4) + (10 @5) 7.05 km (5:20 / km) +65m 5:06 / km
ahr:118 max:173 shoes: Atomic WC Skating

mostly double polling from COC to Krum. Buenas vistas.

nice training, new loop for me in "Andrew" direction, almost survived all climbs including Elinor's hill - from Lower Bailey Hazen to Six Corners - 600 merers with 10% grade.

Monday Jan 27 #

2 PM

skiing (skating style) 49:47 intensity: (5:20 @0) + (18:44 @1) + (23:57 @2) + (1:46 @3) 10.8 km (4:37 / km) +150m 4:19 / km
ahr:110 max:145 slept:7.5 shoes: Fisher SpeedMax Plus 2018

After working on OCAD and LIDAR things with Krum at home, it was a late-ish training session at Craftsbury. I tried Atomics first on a relatively short loop and than Fishers. Fishers were faster a little bit, so I continued on Fishers. That happened to be a mistake, since they stop gliding in about 20 min, than it was tough going, especially up-hills. Had to stop twice on a long climb to gather strength ant catch breath.
Temps were above freezing with wet fresh snow on a ground and falling slightly
3 PM

skiing (drills) 24:41 intensity: (14:42 @1) + (9:50 @2) + (9 @3) 4.8 km (5:09 / km) +55m 4:52 / km
ahr:117 max:143 shoes: Atomic WC Skating

after short brake and hot chocolate and a GU, went to work on balance drills, Atomics were gliding just fine, Fishers may meed some fresh scraping, TBD tomorrow when temps drop.
