Day 3 - Crusoe.
Super-fast spur-gully area with some erosion features later in the course. The first control was so easy (along a fence) that I got worried that I was following the wrong fence or something, and then saw a depression so had a peer in, nothing, so I started peering in 10 or more depressions until eventually I came to the one with a flag in it. Doh! So already 1min down I raced as hard as I could to see how far I could get before Lizzie caught me a minute. I got most of the way to c6. The rest of the course was also very fast and I could catch glimpses of Lizzie for the remainder, although she remained 30secs or so ahead of me the whole way. Flags were hung high so no further mistakes on the course. Finished 3rd on the day and 2nd overall for the carnival.

Day 2 - Mt Alexander.
Really fun area on the side of a rocky slope, with potential for big mistakes if concentration was to waver. I had a steady run. Just some hesitation/standing still on the way to c7 and c10. Pleased to finish 2nd ahead of faster runners who made bigger mistakes, but still a sizable 6mins down on the very in-form Lizzie!

Day 1 - Yorkshire Hill.
Good race in some really fun gold-mining terrain. Maybe didn’t start out at 100% speed as has heard it was pretty tricky, but actually it wasn’t that tricky if you were reading well, and the terrain was super-fast for running. Small hesitation into c6 (20secs). Passed Aislinn here, then Lizzie caught us at c10. We caught Kathryn at c12. By c14 I had been dropped by the other three so did my own thing to c15 and got this first as they all missed it. I tried harder this time to stay in the group til the end, which I managed because the course got a little more technical with controls closer together. 2nd, 2mins down on Lizzie.

Event: Easter 2013

Orienteering race (Sprint Prologue) 18:08 [4] *** 2.9 km (6:15 / km) +90m 5:25 / km

La Trobe Uni, Bendigo.
Not a good race. Lost 45secs to c5 through the green - followed the wrong gully up (to c6) and stuffed up the correction. Biggest mistake in a sprint ever I think. (also during this leg I stacked it badly tripping over some wire on a broken fence). My performance over the rest of the course was pretty poor; no flow and just not on the ball. 5th and over 2mins down!
