Yesterday afternoon I had driven to Warburton and stayed the night. Today I ran up Mt Donna Buang, which has a pretty direct walking track straight up from the town.
It was very steep, wet underfoot and a bit slippery. The clouds were in again. The forest was very rainforesty with heaps of ferns and let's face it probably heaps of leeches. I tried not to look for them. After 56mins (and only about 4km) I reached the summit road. The path crossed this and then the going got easier - less steep and a wider path. I ran over Mt Victoria (not really much of a mountain let's be honest!) then across to the top of Donna Buang (1250m elevation). The lookout tower on top is very impressive, though from there I couldn't see anything except for the tops of some nearby trees. The forest on top of the range was also very lovely.
It took 87mins to get to the top, and I was back at the car after 2.5hrs running time. It was a lot easier and quicker on the return journey. I had carried water, a little food and some dry clothes which I needed to change into at the top!
In the afternoon I headed to the airport a scenic way, then flew home.
