Decided yesterday that today was the day to tackle Houghton Hill and go over the downs from North to South. Headed out early, pretty nippy, my hands were frozen for the fist few miles.
Billi, Marringdean, West Chilt, Pulborough, Rackham, Amberley, Houghton. Then the hill to Whiteways. Took a good glug of water before heading on up, the first bit out of Houghton was quite tough but tbh the rest of it was just a steady upwards. The traffic though!! I had forgotten it was Goodwood Revival weekend and that this would be one of their main routes from East to West, older engines chuck out a lot more fumes that modern ones. Ugh. At Whiteways was glad to dip off the A29 to cover most of it via Madehurst. Rejoined the A29 at the bottom of the sharp hill up towards the Spur at Slindon, knowing that was my last big climb I settled into a lovely pace taking me down through Walberton, Oving and on to Chi. I quick cycle past Simon's to check the curtains were open which I knew indicated that he had gone for the Parkrun. Back out to the one-way system and decided to cycle up the east side of the park along College Lanne, left along the top of the park and then down to the Theatre entrance. Shortly after I arrived I caught Simon coming round on his second lap.
