Interval training in 4 control segements. In groups of 4 orienteers, mix of mass and individual start. Felt a little low on energy before starting and partially tired legs from day before. Also had come dressed in shorts and no compass prepared for terrain loops, so a good navigation test. Felt good on first set, still trying to get used to reading the detail on a 1:10, perhaps a magnifier will help.
Interval 2 also felt strong and was hitting controls. A compass would have been helpful. Really helps to look up, but also to know what to look up for.
Interval 3 was bad. Felt like I couldnt read the map quick enough. Perhaps was rushing, felt like I needed to catch the guy infront, or didn't want to be caught. Took a little while to locate where I was to start leg 9, and misread feature. Also didn't read map and stop to look at 10, just ran blind. so wasted time at wrong crags. Not really sure what 11 was on. A bit of nasty control.
Interval 4 started bad. Felt pressure of not wanting to be caught, so ran too high, and slowly made my way back down. Should have broken it up more before, slowed down and used the crags and large boulder. Easy to say after. Next few controls, went well. Big cliff after 16 probably not best idea to come down.
Interval 5 went well. 18 tricky leg, had to keep contact with map, ticking bits off, not running to quick. Bit sloppy into control. Gained time on others to 19 by going left route (they went straight), and also for 20.
6. Bit of a nightmare. Found a control for 21 but not sure it was correct. from route can see I came up left reentrant as when I was running I thought I was coming up right renentrant so end of left of control. Explains why I reached 22 quicker than expected. Next time try and aim for definate point before control eg path juction or boulder.
Last interval went quite well. first control was tricky to determine which renetrant but there were no tapes so also threw us off a bit.
