ahr:139 max:165

Orienteering (Night o) 26:26 [2] ***** 3.16 km (8:22 / km)
ahr:128 max:153

Removed all rock features from map and north lines, made for quite a challenge. Felt comfortable running in the terrain now and head up. Was drifting slightly on controls but in most keeping on line.

Summary:
-remember to aim for something break it down
- take quality bearings

Biking (Spin) 31:29 [5]
ahr:142 max:181

4 intervals by approx 4mins hard intensity.

Orienteering (Long run with o) 1:38:16 [2] *** 13.95 km (7:03 / km)
ahr:130 max:164

Nice morning long run with Callum and Craig. Took it easy to get warmed up at start but leg was good and was fine. A little tender after to touch but happy.

Control 1 tricky on hill side aimed for high path then neat features into control. 2 good line out good bearing came a little right. 3 bearing out maintain level and head up hills pointing nicely. 4 came out on right line spur to crag gap. Aim was for crag at open marsh. Line out of crag was good but I should have known I was still too far right. Came down right of path had to relocate. Not good. Should have taken better bearing from crag to marsh. 5 stayed high using spur in over marsh detail hard to read on ground, quite confident of position. 6bearing right side of hill nice control pick into control, simple aps. Boom. 7 take right line of hills past marsh

Orienteering (Night o) 1:15:00 [1] 8.0 km (9:23 / km)

A cold wet and windy night in Goteborg. Exercise was aimed at getting the control circle by blanking out the area around it. Forced to hit an early attack point and be confident into control.

Was feeling good clear head a bit tired but keen to train.

Started steady along path found it very tricky to know if I was in control. Got myself a little confused. But good reminder that on first control important to be careful and get a feel for the terrain. No real plan. 2 follow end of spur nice line round hill and in, was a little right of control. 3 good bearing and took it steady on line was checking off marsh, crag, coming into control was tricky a little right. 4 I made quite tricky could barely see any map. Good bearing was option via high knolls then down, felt a little left so when descending cane round into renetrant. 5 good bearing out aiming for hill and big renetrant and to come off small spur. Very tricky into control, but think I got it. Aimed for right line to stay out of marsh. Went smoothly however struggled to know exactly where I was at. Saw other orienteers which was strange. 7 was tricky aim for up renetrant and come off at cliff edge. Came a bit too far left. 8 bearing out to path then up ridge was nice to follow, used marsh as entry point. 9 tricky to break leg into chunks so sat in a bearing. Was pushed left by crags and relocate don path and in. 10 bearing out to hill could have been a better one came left again. 10 tried going between marshes which was fine then along path too control. 12 spot on the line. Bit off putting with large cliff before which I couldn’t see. Bearing used hill tops to follow to finish.

Summary
- seems to be common for me to flick left just before control eg 2,4,,6,7,,10,, need to have a clear bearing
- simplifying works well, if tricky to simply then take good bearing look ahead or slow down, depending on where in the leg
- know what you want head up into control

Biking 15:00 [1] 4.0 km (16.0 kph)

Running warm up/down (Warmup) 13:34 [1] 2.11 km (6:26 / km)
ahr:123 max:141

Very easy with rucksack so didn’t want to jolt the leg. Felt a little stiff but loosened up well

Orienteering race (Natt cup) 1:10:28 [3] **** 9.5 km (7:25 / km)
ahr:143 max:169

First race in the new year was nervous going into it from two points, it was a vital test for the leg and also to see how I fared against the locals again.

Happy with result, managed to finish whole course and leg was good. A little tender but good.

Biking 1:00:00 [1] 18.0 km (18.0 kph)

Orienteering (Night corridor) 50:11 [1] **** 5.57 km (9:01 / km)
ahr:135 max:177

Some more technique focus on night corridor. Weather was shit got very cold and wet, still some snow in forest.

Main focus was to use compass well and pick off small goals continuously. Started out a little left then cane on track, even tho slow navigation was strong, map to ground contact felt clear. Felt in control 90%.

Also good leg felt good, getting used to the terrain again.

Summary:
- simple targets works well especially when no clear attack point
- that bearing needs a target or else it will drift
