Aim for today was to practice in 10mila relevant terrain, push physically and put the nav under a bit of stress.

First set: went out at level 3 intensity
1 - spotted path option but aimed straight, trickt to start with aim was off first hill right aiming for green blob and small hill then crossing over spur using hill after control as catch. Found small pit which was bonus.
2 - Simple follow contour round, then cross marsh and follow next contour to contorl.
3 - aimed to climb/ round hill not really one or the other, then was just aiming for big hill. when climbing big hill knew it could be a risk of missing boulder, but was confident on my line. essentially aimed to drop and then contour to control. Wasnt too clear as trees thickened. Next time woudl aim to hit rentrant on climb then I have a better line in.
4 - out to path over and over the hill, good on line, just looking for the drop between hills.
5 - paths, then use the hill to guide in off to right, was spot on.

Round 2 - went harder on this set level 4
1 - steady along path to just see what first leg was, then off on a bearing, big hill to hit and just aiming for the gap then control was nearby. Fell in the mud crossing path. Got pushed a little right crossing the gap but payed close attention as time was right, so made an S into control.
2 - lovely leg lovely forest, easy contour lines to follow head up
3 - aimed to miss the middle stuff so came right, most of leg went smooth aiming for big spur, cross over then contour to control. I thought it went great, just came under control, but on gps i actually didnt make it. i hestiated and stopped to early. this explains my next line. Otherwise line was good and plan was solid.
4 - bearing across just aiming for hill. came more right than expected but readjusted and was looking for high point and rentrant
5 - lovely control, big hill to catch, just following smooth lines, veg boundary was nice and obvious
6 - plan was simple, good bearing head up, crossing hill, veg boundary would serve as a good indication how close to my line I was. As crossed open area, tried to gather where I was. as dropped into forest felt confident and could make out spur. boom

Round 3 Intensity 3
1 - good bearing looking for big hill, round and contour, at the corner just head up travelling dwon the rentrant
2- simple aim for large spur, bearing doesnt have to be perfect then can pop down far side and traverese to cliff, hit cliff spot on
3 - straight on the line, at the hill magnifier brilliant, picked a nice left line, then pinged the line of rocks into control
4- line out was a litle off but not to much disadvantage. aiming then for hill top, came down rentrant keeping touch with compass, corssed path and aim to stay on edge between marsh and forst, worked a treat!
5 - tricky one. aimed just on the line, came just right of the hill then was very alert. could use the large rentrant to advantage, spotted boulder also so was confident coming into control.
6 - good line, just following the bottom of the hill
7 - bearing was good, aim just for path, just checked at path crossing but was on point, past spur and in.
8 - aimed out to path, thought it was a bit close, but realised was the wrong path then crossed back over. was a bit short of control tho

Thoughts
systematic, know your strategy and have a code word that sparks it when you need it
weakness approching open hill tops with flattish features - need work
Require better strategy when crossing hills (either go straight or round, none of this in between shit, its dangerous)
alot can be simplified but knowing when higher focus is needed is key, usually on hills nearing control

Thoughts on terrain
Some green areas no mapped,
quite fast running, and mix of vis, high vis on tops, low in marshes, easier to push at pace, hardwork when going slow. boulders generally quite large but can be quite green,

Some solo intervals in a cold dark forest with some lit trail. Went 100% on each set. Three sets about 1.2km hilly route, 1 min rest. Although dying towards the end, felt really strong and able to fight all the way. Felt a bit sick after but happy :)

Was a bloody cold evening and decided to not wear gloves. Aim was to go steady smooth and over push. Systematic orienteering.Follow the strategy

1 - down the path trying to read the map, simplified it down to one big hill in the middle, then keep a bearing over to the big path. came a little more right than wanted but was fine, then focused more at the path into control, round the big hill head up boom
2 - striaght out to path, control on the big hill past the corner bend. Nearing the junction came off straight on bearing. aiming to contour round the hill, picked up the renetrant then turned then looking for the slight down, along and hit the cliff spot on.Hecotr had different gaffle so he was nowhere to be seen
3 - Had pre planned, on a line out of 2, was picking up bits of path but main focus on the big path section in middle and big hill beyond, and to get down correct renetrant. Hector just ahead, rounded hill well up and spiked.
4 - Set proper good bearing two hands, stuck to it. hector came a little left. my target was hitting the big boulder then i knew it was just after. boom.
5 - calm and collected i told myself. systematic. easy leg initially out to path and follow, cut off near control and rough bearing in. contours were very flat. as expecting to hit a distinctive rentrant but it was spur and then pop down to it, line was good so came onto marsh well.
6 - considered path but decided straight for some practice. marsh was shit green but kept my line, then just aimed for the large path, contouring to miss the climb. smooth join to the other path, careful to keep the direction sometimes these easy transitions are easy to lose focus on end up on the wrong path. coming into control took line off the path knew i just had to be between the hills, and the hill next to control guided me just left and 5m right of rock.
7 - kept it simple, paths until quite close to control. Was running with hector we had different gaffles but fun to have to company and test the focus. I had to stop for a dump. So lost a minute to hector, then regather myself. aim was quite simple, looking for the rise in ground from the marsh then follow along until rentrant, was just below it and was sure i was there and then swung back round and boom.
8 - straight was great. just straight to hill, worry about it when i am there. magnifier helped here, picked nmy way over the top spur and then round in
9 - probably the hardest control on course. first part easy along path, then aim to stay on the line, plan wasnt super clear, but as hit hill payed close attention to map to ensure i picked up the detail, came just under some crags so line was good then could simplfy that i reached a high point, then as soon as start to drop, go left, worked a treat. was close to big boulder
10 - another trickier leg. aim to hit straight and contour round the big hill with marsh. on path came off and it took me a little left but quickley realised and readjusted my line towards the right hill. was hesitatnt into control but basically followed contours to the end.
11 - pushed a bit harder for the last couple controls. just following paths here but plan was clear when i came off, no wasted time.
14 (skipped 12 13 too many paths) target was path bend, hit spot on, then was simple line into control. perfect.

Thoughts:
Overall quite a straightforward course, or atelast it felt that way, I felt confident with the navigation and physically great
Reminder of how powerful following the contours and making use of their size and position can help without having to be precise and over read details.
Bearing off path dangerous!! need to be more careful
Clear plan coming off a path, espeically with speed change.
