10km training race. Organized my Umara the energy gel sponsor for many clubs. Just under 1mm asphalt loop round a lake, so 10 and a bit laps. Nice loop with a small arching bridge. Wind was quite strong today so one straight had a headwind just after e bridge, where the ground was most uneven. But I see the difference as negligible when it’s a loop.

Started off really strong, aiming to hit just under 3:26 per lap for my 35min goal. First loop was a blast, 3:11 I knew I couldn’t hold this so eased off a little and got into a steady rhythm mostly by myself. My lap time was slowly creeping up as I slowed, perhaps lactate, also my running cadence dropped, and heart rate rose. It was a mental battle, keeping count of the laps, and turning into the wind every lap. The support on the side was much appreciated.

I recall the first few laps well, however it’s funny how the mid section seems a blur I guess you just get in a zone and keep marching on. Trying to ignore the pain. On the last lap I wanted to pick it up but the power wasn’t there, so I gradually reeled in a guy 20m ahead then on the final half lap extra I went for it.

New PB for me so super happy but a little disappointed I didn’t hit my 35. Impressive evening from Max with 30:10!

Running 11:13 [1] 0.89 km (12:38 / km)

Recovery after race was quite good. But felt in the legs so had to run slowly for jog. Tight in the class so took very easy . An hour after felt cramp in the stomach and lungs. They had obviously been used.

Short warmup. 1km at race pace. And a war down. Trying new taper routine before race with shorter sessions but getting the speed up brefily
