High Dam is always a good time. First few controls appeared in front of me very nicely indeed and actually in the first half of the course my speed really wasn't too bad looking at the splits. Things got a bit messy when I started running out of energy and I was wishing I had got the other half of my gel in my mouth at this stage. So a few silly errors in the second half but still a very pleasant race and some encouraging signs fitness wise.

Messed up the first three controls (especially the 3rd), so then just decided to cruise and enjoy being back in good terrain. The rest of the course was much cleaner and I enjoyed watching a stream of M16s come past me, only to screw up and end up behind me again.

Excellent cycle with my old PE teacher/XC coach. A bit of a revelation that rides are a lot more pleasant if you don't always choose the steepest way up the ridges. Who'da thunk it?
(Obviously no taper for the weekend as I'm not bothered about selection or any of that, just happy to be involved)
