Orienteering 37:39 [1] 4.87 km (7:43 / km)
shoes: Terrex

Shame to miss the Venla start but couldn't go into Jukola with "back to start" mode being my most successful navigation strategy. This was much better

Orienteering 1:19:48 [3] 15.62 km (5:07 / km) +56m 5:01 / km

Jukola leg 1 - 55th
Really happy with this. Not incredible, but exactly what I needed to do to put the team in contention. Only regret is a couple of small and silly mistakes on #1 and #3 which dropped me to the back of the front pack. From there it just took a small miss to #12 while taking a gel to drop me.
Still, the second pack was moving and I was in control, doing my own nav. Even had a brief stint leading the pack with Anton Kuukka and Tim Robertson breathing down my neck and wasn't too starstruck to show them a thing or two.
Came in just within 3min of the lead, happy days for my last race for EUOC!

Training near Tampere.
Some of my worst work ever on the course. Stopped when my map had completely dissolved, then things got worse when I tried to take an off-the-map route back to the car. The two tracks did in fact not meet up and I ended up using back to start mode through 3km of heavy skog to make it home.

Running 37:00 intensity: (9:00 @1) + (7:00 @2) + (7:00 @3) + (7:00 @4) + (7:00 @5) 8.75 km (4:14 / km)

Phys testing
Always a weird one, with various sources of discomfort making effort judgement quite hard. Usual drill, 1kph increments for 3min each. Started at 13, felt I was working pretty hard from 18 onwards but had enough to finish 22 in the end.
Not bleeding very well, so have ended up with the dreaded crumpet finger to remember this by.
Behind the left shin has been a bit sore since Saturday. Thought was muscular tightness but seems a bit worse today and hasn't loosened off. Will keep an eye on it.

Edit:
Post results, some interesting stuff.
Compared to 4 years ago my VO2 max/kg has only gone up slightly from 68-69.6 (I've probably gained ~7kg since then)

However, for the same speed I'm using about 10 less VO2, which seems like a large increase if it's solely down to running economy?

So in practice I'm running 3kph quicker with the same HR and Lactate, which is incredibly encouraging. It is easy to forget how far you've come, especially with 18 months of those 4 years being off running due to illness

Trying to shake out this weird pain from my left leg. Saturday was a bit silly for a low mileage man like myself. Phys testing tomo
