Specific Endurance

Swapped Sundays SE session to today as had the opportunity to get out for a long hilly group run with Andy, James, Sarah and a couple of local runners. We started off on some pretty technical undulating single track before taking in a big climb to the summit of Puig Tomir. The upper slopes of the mountain became slightly unrunnable in places and more scrambley/ boulder hopping in places which slowed the pace a bit. The terrain reminded me a bit of Jura in places. Stopped briefly at the top to take in the view but time wise it worked out pretty well and almost bang on 3hrs moving time by my watch.

Legs were a bit tired from the last couple of days cycling but I was able to push hard enough on the climbs to feel out of breath at the top. Trying to keep up with the others made me run harder than I probably would have if out by myself which made it feel like a good run all in all. I ran with my race pack and took on a good amount of liquid and food during run. Pretty exhausted by the end though and back to Mancor for a siesta...will run easy tomorrow.

*My watch won’t sync with Strava just now so will upload when back home on Monday*

Another hot sunny day in Mallorca, another cracking cycle! Big loop with James starting in Mancor before taking in a couple of pretty big climbs up Coll de Soller and then out of Soller itself and up Puig Major. Biggest day on the bike since last summer and really enjoyed it!

Cracking cycle with James. Started in Mancor and headed out to Sa Calobra. Smooth tarmac and a sweet descent down into Sa Calobra itself! A long tough climb coming back up from the coast especially on some pretty heavy legs after yesterday’s session. Great day to be out though.

Easy + 5x FHC + Easy
Couldn’t persuade any of the others to join the session so went solo. Found a good gravel track leading out from the back of the town which worked out well distance wise with a nice steady climb. The final 80” hard was more like 70” as I reached a locked gate at the top of the track and couldn’t go any further, otherwise felt like a good session. Very heavy legs by the end...

Did some scrambling later in the day with the others.
Cycling is on the cards for Thursday and Friday but should find time for the SE session over the weekend.

Morning group run with James, Andy and local runner Jordi.
A good loop on the trails from the village taking in some rather technical single track. Feeling like summer has arrived! T-shirt and shorts weather!

Trail (Easy) 1:02:00 [1] 10.6 km (5:51 / km) +357m 5:00 / km
shoes: Salomon S-Lab Speed

Travel day to Mallorca. Landed in Palma then headed inland to the quiet town of Mancor in the foothills of the Tramuntana where we’re based for the week.

An easy group run in the afternoon with James, Andy and Sarah on the trails from the village. Good to shake the legs out after a day travelling.

Specific Endurance

A short section on the road from the front door to the trail and back but otherwise the whole session was done on trail.
Slightly misjudged timings so the 2hr 30 ended up a touch over cooked..

Started by heading up the north face track on the Ben but full on blizzard conditions, a whiteout and snow underfoot made it seem sensible to retreat! So ended up sticking to some lower trails for this with lots of smaller ups and downs.
I tried to push on the climbs but the legs weren’t having too much of it. Felt very heavy after Saturdays FHCs. I took it relatively easy on the flatter and downhill sections of trail.
The weather didn’t improve much lower down so a day for full body cover, hat and gloves for the duration. Some Spanish sun can’t come soon enough! Next stop Mallorca!
