| Orienteering race (Oceania Relays) 40:04 [5] 5.3 km (7:34 / km) | |
shoes: Jalas - new
Ran in a Stingers-Cockatoo team with Jo and Mace. Jo went out first and came back in 2nd, just after Grace. Was really happy with my nav today, managed to keep my head for the entire race, legs were a big slow and heavy for the first few controls (prob cos I didnt cool down yestie). Didn't feel like a relay as I ran the entire race by myself, kept expecting Vanessa or Jenni to catch me. Handed over to Mace with a 6min lead. She had a good race aswell and we ended up winning by 5mins!! Yay!! Good way to finish off my o'ing year.

Probably made my biggest error before I even started the run.... whilst warming up realised my compass had a big bubble in it so swapped it with Dad for his fancy compass, with a big hole where the thumb sits.... felt really weird on the map and took a while to get used to it. But I can't blame my mistakes on that!! Took a wide route to no.2, thankfully hitting the fence prob a result of me getting used to the map and not looking where I was going, then I was too high for 4 and as a result ended up overrunning it. Caught Mace here, however, Jo and Penny caught us here as well. After these errors I started getting a hang of the mapping and didn't make any major errors from here on. Ended up coming 10th, 16mins behind Grace, which I know is a lot but I was expecting more. A really enjoyable area.

| Oceania Sprint Champs at Radford College. Felt a lot better than I thought running today, especially after sitting in a car all morning. Didn't start off too cleanly, overrunning the first control, took a couple of legs to get used to the sacle of the map. At times I wasn't entirely sure what was out of bounds and what wasnt and took a pretty wide route choice from 3 to 4. Went to the last control before the 9th and lost a few seconds. Apart from these small errors was pretty happy with my run.

Stayed around to watch my parents and bro run in the sprint, ended up walking around most of Dad's course with him (as he's out injured with a stuffed knee at the moment). Surprising how little you actually look at the area when running compared to walking, I took in so more more detail strolling around (I also didn't remember being in some places earlier in the day...)

Morning streets before another long day at work. Struggling to get used to how bright and sunny it is at 6.15am!! The only thing that reminded me that is was morning was how chilly it was, and the fact that there weren't too many cars driving around.

Arvo Willans run. Feeling very tired after work today, got a taste of whats to come for me over the next 2 years.... the duplication of the Sheahans Bridge (@ Gundagai), is going to be my 'little hobbie'.... spent the day trying to understand how the thing is going to be constructed, too many engineering terms for me

2 laps of Lake Albert, it's warming up!! Never really got into this run and my heart rate was unusually high for the pace I was running. Heaps of people out walking or riding this arvo, just wish some people would learn that they are not the only ones using the path... and maybe not walk right down the middle!!

Managed to produce yet another poor performance for 07.... Started off ok, slow but I wanted to make sure I could read the map, then I lost it on no.7, just wasn't reading the contours right and ended up on the wrong side of the spur, relocated ok which was a bonus, but would have lost a good 2mins. From there on I navigated ok, stopped a bit too soon for a couple of controls. But physically I was struggling, was just feeling heavy and struggled to run hard through the terrain. I wasn't last so thats a bonus. At least I now have three days off to re-focus before the next races.
