run round the frödisch watershed

cracking and very austrian day out, and an obvious and exciting loop to do from dafins, been booked for a while. had done large sections of this route previously, which was a big boon even if it meant slightly less spontaneity. legs were excellent on the big slog all the way up to first, and a steady stream of people to pass gave me some entertainment trying to avoid replying in sweutsch, which is very much the new swenglish, pretty useless anyway much to be regained. then my favourite ridge ever, 10km of dipping in and out of the woods, up and down, technical and smooth, even some knife edge stuff and the odd ladder. great fun, and then up the steep scree onto hohe freschen. had been wet up there as with everywhere else, so quite sketchy in places and was glad to reach the cable handrails near the top.

summit didn’t come with the same euphoric view as last time, although only had to descend for a couple minutes before i could see far more. path crossed quite a few old snow beds which were awesome, especially the downhill ones, should have to pay for that kind of entertainment lol. then cut down a different way and ended up in the terrain for a bit, where there happened to be a marmot, just standing there watching me, super cool definitely haven’t seen one before although if that sighting was lucky no idea. then onto a bigger track to skirt round ‘nob’ to the left, missed a turning shortly after and randomly ended up at a hut with a fairly large brass/wind band playing, had to stop for a while and listen, quality stuff montrose town band could never unfortunately.

successfully quashed the urge to stay and have a beer like everyone else, and then got going down the hill. was pretty impressed with the stomach today, had no issues at all even on the big long shoogly descent which caused such pain last time. hr generally quite high today though, will just chalk it up to hot and heavy conditions and not worry too much.

anyway, as a man far wiser than me once said ‘three big weeks in a row is enough’ so going to attempt a smaller week, plenty money in the bank anyway - though might be foreign currency.

steady then picking up gradually until i started getting blisters

Running 46:08 [2] 6.88 km (6:42 / km) +383m 5:15 / km

easy down and then up to vb
wibbly wobbly feels coming straight off the rowing machine, but felt pretty good once i got stuck into the grindy uphill. left knee not perfect but fairly sure i’m not doing it any damage by running.

out again, up the hill to morsch.
tweaked my left knee while working today so some rather guffy feelings coming from there, hopefully nothing an evening in the hammock won’t sort out. really could ramble on about the view for an entire paragraph every time i write something up, so class.

e-bike ride up to treiet
some muttering about the validity of this as actual exercise, and hate to be in the pro camp but was great fun as a one off. spent a lot of time lost to begin with, a few dead ends one where i went flying down a culdesac, and someone starting should halt! halt! had to ride into a field to avoid being discombobulated. descent all the way down to weiler was utterly class, once i’d persuaded my brain that the brakes were flipped :0. one day i’ll be old enough to truly justify riding one of these.

recoveries all jogging back down. goal with the first 10 was to give myself a distance to reference if i do the same again before i leave, although didn’t completely bury myself but hopefully an easy effort to replicate. then jogged down until i felt reasonable and cracked on with the rest. actually felt significantly better on the 3s, comfortable and moving well. very nice.

Running warm up/down 24:42 [2] 4.62 km (5:21 / km) +64m 5:00 / km
