Yorkshire 3 Peaks fell running with Jonny and Henry

A fabulous runnerable route even the climbs have the potential to be fast.

In the end a fairly long but actually surprisingly easy day out. I'm going to have to come back and do the fell race one day but will have to qualify first!

Orienteering Racing race 1:03:41 [4] *** 9.4 km (6:46 / km) +334m 5:45 / km

Really happy with the navigation today. Legs were very fatigued.

Leg 2 - Didn't realise that the dark line on the map was a vegetation boundary (thought they were always marked with the dotted line) so ended up running down the left hand path. I'm happy that I realised very quickly what I had done and re-navigate on to the control using the earth wall. - 1 minute lost.

Leg 8 - Chose to hug handrail the vegetation boundary rather than risk going through the green. In hindsight the green would have been fine but I'm not unhappy with the decision. However, once reached the path didn't really have an attackpoint and so ended up going to the wrong platform. - 30 sec lost

Leg 13 - As approached thickets I was distracted by the other runners around me going for the control and so went to the west thicket instead of east. Was pretty tired at this time especially after the large climb from No. 12. - 30 sec lost

Leg 14 - Came a little too far south on the control. Laziness with compass and no good plan. - 30 sec lost.

Leg 15 - Executed my plan exactly (aim off to earth wall and follow around the corner) however, having looked a route gadget lots of people took the path to the south and then followed earth wall. This may have been quicker or about the same time but it probably had less room for error.

Leg 18 - Very small error getting distracted by tower (thinking it was the man made object) but less then 30 seconds lost.

leg 19 - Plan was to hug fence and then head up to path (which is what I did) but was a little slow going and not a fool proof plan. Better route was probably to follow the edge of the southern fence (OOB area) and then pick up the path. Would have been easier running on my very tired legs. - 30sec lost.

Leg 20 - executed my plan perfectly but not sure it was the best route choice. I saw Adam Potter went SW on path from road crossing then just stayed on the paths. Again easier on the legs and faster.

Leg 22 - Biggest error of the day. Should have just followed the path south from paved area then followed the fence. But for some unknown reason decided to 'cut the corner' and wasn't really paying attention to the compass or terrain and was just enjoying the sun!! Lucky realised pretty quickly what I'd done but lost time - 1.5 min lost

Leg 23 - Baring was a bit off but knew I'd hit path and could follow it. - Maybe 30sec lost.

Leg 26 - Blindly running out of control 25 in the vague direction of 26 (legs seriously tired and getting dehydrated). Luckly was an easy control but could have been more accurate and faster.

I appreciate this is rather a tough evaluation of what was probably my best race in a while but looking to try and learn more from my races.
