run 31:25 [2] 5.3 km (5:56 / km)

Easy jog around Maiden Gully in the early light and drizzly rain. Had 49mm of rain over the weekend! It's fantastic to see puddles and be able to walk around on damp ground.

Thursday Apr 26, 2007 #

rode to & from work 57:00 [3] 18.0 km (3:10 / km)

Nice to get back on the bike again. Only trouble with riding to work is all the gear I have to carry on my back.

Wednesday Apr 25, 2007 #

run 46:28 [4] 8.8 km (5:17 / km)

Pushed myself this afternoon, and felt fine. Legs were not sore.

Sunday Apr 22, 2007 #

run 21:14 [3] 4.0 km (5:19 / km)

Just a gentle run to test out my legs again. Quads got quite sore so I walked home.

orienteering race 45:03 [3] 5.3 km (8:30 / km)

Local orienteering event. Did the shorter course, because this was my first run since the marathon. Legs felt good during the run, but stiffened up a bit afterwards.

Tuesday Apr 17, 2007 #

Note

Injured. Went to the physio and learned all about eccentric exercises for achillies tendonopathy. Quads starting to feel a bit better with moving around more at work today (than sitting in the car all day yesterday).

marathon long 4:02:49 [5] 42.2 km (5:45 / km)

Great morning for a Canberra Marathon. About a thousand silly runners were accompanied by a swarm (well almost) of hot air balloons whooshing their way overhead. A surprise for me was meeting Clare (a work colleague who left Bendigo for Canberra about 18 months ago) at the start and I really enjoyed running the first half with her, near the blue (4 hour pacer) balloon (helium, not hot air). I was left behind when I stopped for a toilet visit, and it took about 10km to catch up with them again. Had a niggle in my left achillies all the way, which got more intense as time went on. Quads started hurting after 25 km, and running just got harder after that. Made the mistake of walking in one uphill part and at a drinks stop, and it REALLY hurt to start running again. The last 2 km were exceptionally slow. My 5km splits were: 28:07:07, 27:48:02, 29:15:86 (toilet split), 27:14:43, 27:03:67(caught up with the pacer), 28:02:51 (pain kicking in), 29:46:41(slower), 31:12:88(much slower), 14:18:63 (last 2.2km - crowd helps out a bit). Achillies tendon is swollen and tender, and I'll catch up with a aphysio tomorrow, but my quads are sooo stiff! Drove home today and it hurts to sit down and get up - feeling like a geriatric.

run 28:25 [3] 5.0 km (5:41 / km)

Just a short one to test out my achillies. It became a bit sore after only 6 mins running. I think I'll rest for the remainder of the week.

Monday Apr 9, 2007 #

Note

No running today, and legs felt a lot better. Spent the day cutting up two of the many dead trees (legacy of the drought) in the backyard.
I think I'll avoid running this week to allow some healing and give me some confidence (even if it's false).

Sunday Apr 8, 2007 #

long slow run 1:31:46 [3] 16.65 km (5:31 / km)

Last long run...sore achillies - again.

Saturday Apr 7, 2007 #

run 24:03 [3] 4.5 km (5:21 / km)

This morning my achillies tendon was sore again, so I cut this run short. Disappointing, because it has been feeling really good. I'd taken the heel raiser out of my shoe - maybe that contributed to the re-emergence of pain.
Two hot air balloons were moving quickly across the neighbourhood, at quite a low altitude, upsetting every dog within a kilometre.

Note

Spent 4 hours wandering all over the Mt Korong map checking out control sites. Parts of the map are very steep, and I want to use these parts for the event in June. I can't claim it as training, but I was pretty stuffed afterwards. Mybe I could claim there was an aspect of navigation training.

Thursday Apr 5, 2007 #

rode to & from work 1:06:00 [3] 21.0 km (3:09 / km)

Wednesday Apr 4, 2007 #

run (Fartlek session) 40:00 [4] 7.85 km (5:06 / km)

SEssion this morning included: 10 min warm up, then 10 x 1min sprints with 1min recovery jogs between. Cool down for 10mins.

Tuesday Apr 3, 2007 #

run 26:03 [3] 4.5 km (5:47 / km)

Short run this morning.

Monday Apr 2, 2007 #

Note

Rest day, and after visiting the physio, I don't want to run. The injury seems to be a little tear in the soleus muscle, so I'll be doing the usual things to help those little fibres fell a bit better....

Sunday Apr 1, 2007 #

long slow run 1:33:11 [3] 18.0 km (5:11 / km)

Ran a few loops in the bush near home.
