long slow run 2:19:00 [4] 19.61 km (7:05 / km)
shoes: Blue Brookes

Determined to get a 20km run in this weekend, I set off thinking I'd run 10km along the goldfields walking track and then turn around and run back. Changed my plan and when I came across the fence around the spring gully res, decided to run around the outside of it. Would have run a lot more up and down and the track was really rough, but I'm pleasantly surprised to have run so close to 20km. Couldn't have done any more though. Feet sore....wish I was fitter....glad its done.

run 29:18 [3] 5.07 km (5:47 / km)
shoes: Blue Brookes

Woken up by the sound of thunder, so got up a little earlier for a jog. Hardly anyone around this morning - and the thunder stopped when I stepped out the door.

run 40:21 [3] 6.77 km (5:58 / km)
shoes: Blue Brookes

After work run; first time the running shorts and knees have seen the light of day for many months!

long slow run 1:46:18 [3] 16.14 km (6:35 / km)
shoes: Blue Brookes

Ran along the Coliban Channel with Neil, from Sandhurst Res out and back. Feeling nowhere near as fit as I should feel for the half marathon run in 3 weeks.

orienteering 1:08:59 [4] *** 7.84 km (8:48 / km)
shoes: Innovate roclite318

Local event on Apollo Hill. I had something about the 9th control going on, because I first headed for control 9 from 5; fortunately they were in approximately the same direction and I corrected without losing too much time. Then I headed for control 9 again from 7, and this lost me more time.
Louise Hall had set a course with a pivot control which we visited 3 times on the longest course.
Impressive use of only 12 controls for 5 courses!
Well done Louise!

orienteering 32:00 [3] ** 2.2 km (14:33 / km)

Collecting controls. Ran and walked mostly on tracks.

orienteering 1:09:00 [3]

This was the Victorian Long Distance Orienteering Championships, and as is often the case at these events I DNF'd. Found the first control ok, then was distracted from my plan on the way to control 2 (a very long leg). Was looking for an hour before I gave up and walked back to the assembly area, very disappointed in my poor navigation. Found a beautiful waterfall on the way back to the assembly area; took Neil back for a look on the way home. I want to return to that area and do the course properly, to get a bit of confidence back.

orienteering 1:31:24 [3]
shoes: Innovate roclite318

Victorian Middle Distance Champioinship event at Rowdy Flat near Yankandandah. This was a 3.4km course, but I'm sure I covered almost double that distance, and as usual I set my GPS ready to record the event, but forgot to start it.

run 30:03 [3] 5.13 km (5:51 / km)

Early run up and down the creek. Slow and only half awake for most of this run. Not really a training run - more to keep me moving ready for the weekend.

run (hills) 46:55 [4] 8.42 km (5:34 / km)

Did ten hill repetitions this morning. I am hoping that my new runners aren't too short for my long toes - my toenail is sore after the run.

Monday Sep 10, 2012 #

run 43:24 [3] 7.31 km (5:56 / km)

Morning run; I was surprised to see the sun at 6:30am! (had a few sleep ins lately). Ran down to the lake and around it. I felt tired, so this was a recover run. Wore my new running shoes for the first time - they felt a lttle tight.

orienteering 1:27:00 [4] *** 10.45 km (8:20 / km) +75m 8:02 / km
shoes: innov8

Neil's ironman event today. This consisted of 3 x 3km races, and the competitors were handicapped. A newly mapped area near Maiden Gully. It was surprisingly hard. I was very tired during the 3rd race, and almost gave up after taking too long to find control 6. Made a big error on the next leg. Had to lift our legs more than usual when running. The competition was fierce; everyone runs harder in this event.

Bushwalk 4:25:16 [4] 12.6 km (21:03 / km) +500m 17:34 / km

Tough walk from our accommodation up to the pinnacle, past the nerve test & down where a track used to be - the descent was a bushbash that went thru a landslide chute & finally brought us to the road 2.5pm from our accom. Tired out!

Tuesday Sep 4, 2012 #

Bushwalk 4:00:00 [3] 6.4 km (37:30 / km)

Went for a walk up the Billywing Gorge(Deep Creek) on the Victoria Range. We though this would be a bash up the rough creek, but to our delight found a small track that led us up the creek, which we hopped from rock to rock, clambered over around & under fallen trees & flood debris, but found a string of lovely falls & rock formations. A very memorable walk!

Bushwalk 5:00:00 [3] 11.3 km (26:33 / km) +610m 20:54 / km
shoes: innov8

We hiked from the Mt William carpark across (with a lot of up & down) to the Mitchell Plateau. This would be great to do as a big loop walk & a camp at 1st Wannon creek (where we had lunch). Rugged walking, & the track is still closed (can't work out why- except for a few trees down across it). This has been on my list for a long time. Very tired tonight!
