Bushwalk 3:00:00 [3] 10.0 km (18:00 / km)

Today was a doddle compared to yesterday. We walked along the Alpine Walking Trail to the top of the Nobs, then along the traverse of the Nobs (very beautiful ridge with great views), and down a really steep 4WD track back to the Jamison river. Neil continued to walk the 3km to the car while I waited with the packs. The river valley seemed full of hunters with their hounds and guns. It seems that the hound hunters frequently get the dogs to sniff out the wild deer and push them down to the river valley where the hunters wait and shoot them when they run along the road (the only clear route for them. Its also rare to see a 2WD vehicle in that part of the country. Everyone (except us ) drives big 4WDs and does BIG camping with all the BIG gear (plus hunting dogs or horses, etc, etc).

Bushwalk 7:00:00 [3] ***** 8.0 km (52:30 / km) +800m 35:00 / km

Day one of a 2 day walk. My pack was over 16 kg, more than I should be carrying for my size, fitness and age, I think, as my hips were sore for the whole walk. We had prepared for 3 nights out. The plan was to climb to the top of Mt McDonald from the Jamison River, and continue on a circuit around to Mt Clear over 3 days. The route up the mountain was over a couple of small spurs onto a very steep main spur to the summit. Trouble was that the way was hard to find because of extensive regrowth after the 2007/08 fires. Thick wattle with very little visibility. Once we were in snow gum territory the terrain was rocky and we had to clamber up a number of rock faces. The summit was amazing, and although windy and foggy we did get glimpses of some surrounding peaks. Had a further 3 km along a beautiful spur to get to the campsite, and I was very slow and very tired. Towards the end Neil took some of my weight and I was able to speed up a bit. We camped in a lovely grassy alpine saddle and had a campfire.

Step into Life group 50:00 [3]
shoes: Blue Brookes

Tone up session. Lots of pushups, and shoulder work with weights, skipping ropes tonight. A good workout, and a lovely night - should be a full moon tommorrow night.

Step into Life group 1:00:00 [3]
shoes: Blue Brookes

Attended a cardio session tonight. It was good fun; pushing Louise up a hill and trying to stop her from pushing me up the hill. Ran a circuit that included steps and turns etc (a bit like sprint O event terrain). A few different running activities. A lovely night.

orienteering 54:05 [3] ** 4.97 km (10:53 / km)
shoes: Innov8a-

State League event at Macedon (well, closer to Woodend really); the course was short and not very technically difficult, although some of the 'shallow gullys' needed some imagination...
The best part of the event was having lunch with Louise and Prue in Woodend afterwards. I think this might become a regular add-on to such events.

run 47:44 [3] 8.14 km (5:52 / km)
shoes: Blue Brookes

Ran up to Browning Street and back along the creek. Stopped to chat with a woman who was a work colleague at Mount Alexander Shire, who is being treated for breast cancer - it's a long treatment regime and she's very brave and patient.

MTB ride 45:00 [2] 13.0 km (3:28 / km)

Rode the MTB to Koolamurt to attend a couple of music workshops. Enjoyed a drumming workshop and a merimba workshop.

Walked a lot around Melbourne between our accommodation in East Melbourne, the museum, Lygon St, Southern Cross railway station, and the Richmond football club. Probably walked about 12 km today.
