Morning run with Neil on his 'badlands' route. First run together for ages. Lots of hills, long grass, rough ground, swooping plovers....
Toes felt a lot better than yesterday with the Scholl shoe insert.

running event (Bendigo fun run) 32:03 [5] 6.15 km (5:13 / km)
shoes: Blue asics

Joined the Step into Life team in the relay. Set out as 1st leg runner with a goal of 2 loops (11.1km). I gVe up after 1 loop with a dry throat and very sore toe. The dry throat I attribute to yesterday's adventure to the waterfall, after orienteering. I don't think I had re-hydrated enough. The sore toe is chronic osteoarthritis, and my feet are not happy with the current running shoe arrangement. Gotta get it sorted..... anyway, it was fun being part of the team with Judy, Anthony and Mick, with Jenny providing support. We went out for a decent brunch afterwards. Got talking about some of the runs coming up next year; I want to set some goals for myself

long slow run (pasc) 1:18:52 [3] 9.28 km (8:30 / km)
shoes: Blue asics

Used the pasc map to work out a running route for this mornings run. Visited 4 locations from the car parked at Diamond Hill & Kangaroo Gully Rds. Saw a few people riding MTBs and when I returned to the car a panicked mother reported her 8 yo daughter missing while they were walking. She rang her husband who was also looking for her and he told her to call the police. While the mother was on the phone to 000 her little girl showed up. Happy ending.

Step into Life group (Powerflex) 1:00:00 [3] 1.5 km (40:00 / km)

Good stretch, good company, good coffee afterwards....

orienteering 50:52 [4] 6.4 km (7:57 / km)
shoes: Innov8 bright

Relay event in vague but highly visible terrain. Great running territory, but I was over-running controls, miss-reading tracks and other features. Consequently I went much further than necessary and took more time than I'd wanted. Nice event however.

Step into Life group (Tone up) 1:00:00 [2]

Gentle early morning tone up session

Sunday Oct 9, 2016 #

orienteering (Vic relays) 46:49 [4] 6.0 km (7:48 / km)
shoes: Black innovates

Brimbank park was the site for the Victorian club relays this year. I was 3rd leg runner after Nigel and Andrew. My run was marred by running off the map when I ran past the gully where control 15 was located. I think I lost 7 mins then. It was very windy (made running difficult) & the grass was waist high in places, so it wasn't easy running.

Step into Life group (Cardio) 1:00:00 [3] 6.67 km (9:00 / km)
shoes: Mizuno greens

Street run with the group tonight. First session back after holidays. Thought I wouldn't get there. Neil rang me at work to ask me to help get the car out of a soft bog hole he'd accidentally got it stuck in. He was near Kooyoora (50 mins from Bendigo). I was in Castlemaine. I got away from work at around 4 pm, purchased a tow rope, D rings, flexible tread, and a jack before leaving Castlemaine, then drove to Maldon and on to Bridgewater. There I spied a hardware shop and bought a shovel to help dig the car out. Got into the car and sent Neil a text. I was on my way to save him and had spent an hour of work , $200 and about 80kms so far.... I didn't have far to go to reach him. Received a call from Neil at that point to inform me that someone had pulled the car out of the bog and I could go off to my exercise session as planned. My initial emotional response was annoyance that my efforts were actually useless, but I turned around and went off to Step into Life. I think Neil detected my annoyance and went to some effort to prepare a lovely Thai beef salad, bought me a favorite beer and some of my favorite chocolate....

run 31:06 [3] 5.24 km (5:56 / km)
shoes: Blue asics

Today was our first day at home following the trip to Qld for the orienteering championships. I went for a jog late in the afternoon. It started raining a couple of kms into my run. This got worse, with a cold wind added to the rain. I didn't get as far as I'd planned; turned around when the wild got stronger. Jogging home was straight into the wind and rain....

orienteering race 1:07:53 [5] 4.33 km (15:41 / km)
shoes: Black innovates

I made a mess of this event from the first leg by following Neil from the start (he was on a different course but headed off in the same direction as me. Picked up my socks for the next 3 legs then totally messed up the next 3 legs! Although I love this terrain its so hard to navigate cleanly.
